I'm a military reporter based primarily at the Pentagon for The Washington Times. Before I came here, I spent almost two decades as a metro reporter in Texas at the Houston Chronicle. Before that, I was in papers and magazines in several cities throughout Texas.

I was in the Army for about six years before I got into the news biz. I was a lieutenant in charge of a platoon of artillery forward observers and mortar infantry soldiers during the Gulf War.

The Kremlin is cheering on the recent freeze in relations between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a sign that Washington’s support for Kyiv may be eroding. On Monday, Mr. Trump called for his Ukrainian counterpart to be replaced in peace negotiations, saying that Mr. Zelenskyy was “not helping matters much” in reaching a peaceful resolution to the war with Russia. He also expressed frustration over the U.S. aid spent on the conflict.

An Air Force service member who died after falling from the rafters during a rappelling demonstration ahead of a Saturday football game between the University of Texas at San Antonio and Navy has been identified as Tech Sgt. Ian Patterson, assigned to the 6th Combat Training Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio in Texas. Sgt. Patterson was a tactical air control party instructor at the base and had been in the Air Force for 15 years. The investigation into Sgt.

Two men who were arrested and later released during an investigation into a suspected terror plot near a British air base used by U.S. bombers are back in custody on suspicion of working for Iran’s intelligence service. Police said it was “highly likely” that Iran was involved in the Sept. 27 incident at RAF Fairford, located about 90 miles west of London. Taken into custody on Tuesday were a 24-year-old British national and a 25-year-old dual British-Iranian national.
