When word comes out about a destructive tornado, many would immediately look to a location somewhere in North America. As well, multiple roads were reportedly closed due to fallen trees and to allow for easier access for emergency services. Early reports and social media videos put the tornado location south of Carcassonne, France, in the Limoux-Pomas-Couffoulens corridor, during late-Monday afternoon.

World's largest electric battery-powered aircraft completes first flight Original

With that in mind, Heart Aerospace took its X1 demonstrator aircraft into its first flight on Wednesday, Aug. 12. The airplane is powered by electric batteries, the world's largest jet of its kind. The electric battery-powered air trek took place at the company's X1 test base at the Plattsburgh International Airport in New York. The flight lasted 27 minutes, a trek that saw X1 hit an altitude of 1,100 feet (335 metres) above ground level, according to Heart Aerospace.

NOAA said the global, surface temperature last month was 1.18 C above the 20th-century average--standing with 2024 as the warmest July since worldwide record-keeping began in 1850. The summer of extreme weather including heat, drought and wildfires, have been the "hallmarks" of the Northern Hemisphere summer for many countries, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said. Meanwhile, other parts of the world have been hit by soaking rains and flooding, which have caused loss of life.

What was your first job as a journalist?

Community newspaper reporter. It was a summer internship with The Oakville Beaver in 2010.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did not. I worked for the college newspaper and website (Sheridan Sun), however, as a news reporter and editor.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

Hard to say. I've received a lot of them in the last 12 years. There's been so many excellent pitches.
