The real reason abolishing stamp duty won’t help first-time buyers
Scrapping stamp duty may sound like a quick fix to Britain’s housing crisis, but there’s reason to believe it would barely move the needle on affordability – while costing the Treasury billions. At the Conservative party[1] conference, leader Kemi Badenoch announced that a future Tory government would abolish stamp duty for people buying their main home. Badenoch called stamp duty “tax on aspiration”[2] that traps families and holds back social mobility.

The UK government has revealed its plan to level up the country – a white paper setting out policies to tackle inequality between places. The plan comes at a defining moment. It’s widely seen as the key to holding on to the constituencies that delivered victory to the Conservatives in the last election. But to succeed, it has to work in practice. All the signs in this respect point to failure. The plan is neither ambitious enough nor coherent enough to work.
Levelling up: the quarrel over who gets funding is a sideshow to much bigger obstacles
In the budget, Chancellor Rishi Sunak confirmed a £4.8 billion Levelling Up Fund to help reverse 40 years of growing inequality across the UK’s regions. This stems from the Conservatives’ 2019 manifesto commitment to close the economic gap between the north and south. Local areas in England will be able to bid for £4 billion, and Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland for £800 million when the first round of funding gets underway in 2021-22.

10 Mobile App Development Trends To Watch Out In 2018
Apps have reshaped everything from our daily life routine to means of communicating. We don’t call cabs; we use Uber. We won’t rent places following classifieds because Airbnb is easier. We are through the middle of 2018 and app industry is surging to the top with thousands of apps releasing every day.

That’s why it is so important to look ahead at the remainder of 2018 and beyond to see the mobile marketing trends that are coming down the track.
Build two-way rapport for better policymaking
Marie Claire Brisbois and colleagues advise scientists to interact with government policy analysts to improve evidence-based policy (see Nature 555, 165; 2018). In our experience, the interaction between academia and policymakers needs to be a two-way process.
How viral content became a hotbed of online ad fraud and what can be done to stamp it out
Just weeks ago, Unilever, one of the biggest advertising spenders in the world, threatened to pull ads from digital and social platforms if they fail to eradicate content which “creates division in society and promotes anger and hate.” Considering that Unilever spent over $9 billion (£6.4) billion on advertising in 2017 and recently stated its intention to increase this spend by £220 million in 2018 (Marketing Week), the industry is forced to take the call to action seriously.
Creating a rich user experience - why a Progressive Web App might be right for your brand
You might have heard buzz in the industry that Progressive Web Apps (PWA) are set to be the next big thing. Those in the know might tell you they’ll push the mobile web forward, bring parity to web and native apps and provide mobile-specific capabilities to web users. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Google came up with the term, and PWAs are seen alongside Accelerated Mobile Pages and Responsive Web Design as a weapon in the fight for a slick mobile user experience.
