Happy Sunday. I went to an event this week on creator mental health & AI at FiveTwoNine Creator Club. Walked from Charing Cross to Clerkenwell - needed it after a hellish train ride. Had a shouting match with the man behind me who was 🤬 at the poor guard (no ticket and a serial offender, apparently). But at least there are witnesses and CCTV whereas online abuse is more insidious.

On creative work, burnout, and why we keep doing it anyway. I enjoyed talk on wellbeing and creative careers. Two hours of stories and studies, plus a Q&A and invitation to carry on the conversation at the pub. The paradox: Passion vs. wellbeing. What makes us happy can also make us sick. He has an interesting perspective on it all as a former journalist, media professor, and bass player of Skinflower. I liked what he said about the labour of love and our intrinsic motivation to create work.

What was your first job as a journalist?

I wrote travel articles and did user research for Travel Maps Australia on a year backpacking around the world back in 1999!

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yep! I learned how to use a word processor and do shorthand at 18

What does it mean to be a journalist?

To simplify complex info and tell good stories to build a more compassionate world
