Upsets aplenty in first round of Denny Hamlin NASCAR Bracket Challenge
Credit: Joe Puetz-USA TODAY Sports The Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway on Sunday busted numerous brackets for those participating in the Denny Hamlin NASCAR Bracket Challenge. Unlike the NASCAR Million Dollar In-Season Tournament that debuts next season, this is the unofficial version that inspired it, and is hosted by Dale Jr’s Dirty Mo Media. Sunday’s race featured a good bit of attrition, natural upsets and final laps drama that already eliminated numerous perfect brackets.

Stairway to 7
With seven races in the books for the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season, we’re approaching a decent sample size of on track action from which we can begin to make some big picture assumptions about the year so far and what’s to come. Track wise, we’ve seen some variety: two superspeedways, one 1.5-mile track, a road course, two short tracks and a trip to the venue that will crown the champion in November.

Could Super Bowl forecast which driver will win NASCAR Cup title?
Could the Super Bowl provide a clue as to who will win the NASCAR Cup championship this season? It's possible. Consider these items … The Kansas City Chiefs will play the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 (a week before the Daytona 500). This is a rematch from the 2020 game that Kansas City won. The Cup champion that season went on to be Chase Elliott. OK, want to look at it a different way? No problem. The Kansas City Chiefs have played in three of the past four Super Bowls.
Friday Faceoff: Does NASCAR Need to Make Changes to the DVP? Original
Phil Allaway: I’ve been against the Damaged Vehicle Policy from the moment it was introduced. It is ridiculous and shouldn’t exist. The change should be to abolish it. NASCAR already had rules stating what you could and couldn’t change (engines, mainly) prior to the DVP being created. I always found the whole thing incoherent and completely out of step with the rest of motorsports. Yes, you shouldn’t be changing engines. There should not be backup cars being brought out in the middle of races.

5 Points to Ponder: Power & Brakes Seem Like Things That Should Be Reliable
1. Things That Shouldn’t Happen During a Race, Part I: Failing Brakes If you’ve watched NASCAR for any length of time, you know that parts failures are just part of the deal. When you have vehicles designed expressly to thumb their nose at physics by traveling as fast as possible for hundreds of miles, things are going to go wrong. That was never more true than Sunday (June 4) at World Wide Technology Raceway (a.k.a. Gateway) near St. Louis.

Has JGR Surpassed Hendrick In These Playoffs?
1. Joe Gibbs Racing hitting its stride, Hendrick faltering? At one point, Joe Gibbs Racing ran 1-2-3-4 on Saturday night at Richmond. Hendrick Motorsports, while close behind, didn’t seem poised to challenge the Toyotas up front. Sure, Chase Elliott led some laps and Kyle Larson came from the rear to the top five in no time, but Alex Bowman was a non-factor after winning in the spring and William Byron was “terrible,” in his own words.
