ELUCID’s last record found the New York rapper within a relatively warm, intimate context. I Told Bessie’s opener set the tone with the gentle philosophizing of Joy James and a bed of tuneful guitar samples. Though there were the expected moments of unnerving dissonance, off-kilter drum programming, and his insistent, explosive vocal style, the album felt like an unusually welcoming addition to his discography, in part informed by its dedication to his grandmother, Bessie Hall.

On a week that featured major UK festivals like Green Man and All Points East, a comparatively intimate festival in Norwich was always doomed to slip beneath the radar. But Wild Fields, with its family-friendly set-up and socially conscious ethos, deserves much more. Indeed it's that smaller scale – there are only two stages, one of which is the touring Climate Live Bus – that allows artists who might not be considered headliners, to take centre stage.

The oldest known piece of written music is a prayer. Dated to around 1400 B.C., the Hurrian Hymn to Nikkal was uncovered during a 1950s excavation of the Royal Palace at Ugarit (modern-day Ras Shamra, Syria) inscribed in cuneiform writing on fragments of clay tablets. Hundreds of years later, the pagan sacrifices, rites, and religious rituals of antiquity were almost always accompanied by a musician or singer.
