Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Right now, editor/publisher of Geek Alabama.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Nope, probably never will!

How is social media changing news?

News through social media is instant! No more waiting for the evening news or the next day newspaper!

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

I love seeing fictional writers or journalists on cartoons like Phineas and Ferb, Adventure Time, and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

You can inform people about the world around you and make sure people know the important stuff that needs to be known!

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

Anything promoting hate on Alabama or Auburn like #AuburnHateWeek or #ThingsilikebetterthanAuburn. Do people have better things to do?

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

By e-mail: barcncpt44@aol.com

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I use Pocket to save interesting articles for future use. I use Buffer App to share my stuff to social media much easier!

What's your favorite social network?

Facebook, because you can read more details than on Twitter. But Google Plus is starting to catch my eye!

Who do you wish followed you?

Big name geeky people like Wil Wheaton, Chris Hardwick, and others!

Why did you become a journalist?

Love writing, photography, and videography! I write very well, take great photos, and take great videos!

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Nope, but I did great writing in English class.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Anything that helps other people like events, charities, crowdsourcing projects. I always get a thank you through e-mail or social media!

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Start writing and taking pictures. You will get better at it!

When's the best time to pitch you?

Daytime, nighttime is bad for me.

What's your favorite drink?

Root Beer

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Watching road traffic or trains.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Mashable
