On Thursday, Team Great Britain announced on social media that Jake Wightman, the 2022 World champion in the 1,500m, will withdraw from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games due to a hamstring injury. Since he claimed gold at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Wightman been battling through a string of injuries. Wightman was given a discretionary selection by his delegation in the 800m despite not competing at the British Athletics Trials in June.

The Stade de France Stadium, which seats roughly 77,083 individuals, will host the track and field competition starting on Thursday for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Some of the biggest stars like Noah Lyles, Sha'Carri Richardson, Jakob Ingebrigsten, Mondo Duplantis, and others will face the stiffest competition of their careers so far this season. There have been social media posts across Instagram of track and field athletes celebrating the start of the Games during the opening ceremony.
