What was your first job as a journalist?

I believe it was doing writing for my local Patch.com sites.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, to use as a prop for a selfie.

Lionel Higgins

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

DSLR (Canon), Lightroom, Photoshop, InDesign, VSCO, Keenai, all things Google. The list is long.

What's your favorite social network?

It's a tie between Twitter & Instagram.

Why did you become a journalist?

The process of connecting with people and sharing their stories was most fascinating.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

Yes! I was news editor.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Most proud of a story I did on the opening of the Healthcare for the Homeless building in Baltimore, Md.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Never stop practicing your craft.

What's the best pitch you ever got?

"Commit a small crime that will get you locked up in juvi, so you can secretly film what happens in there." (It never happened)

What's your favorite drink?

Hot water, lemon, and honey.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Roaming the streets with camera in hand.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

Noisey because I have a friend who writes for it and he's amazing.
