Olivia Obineme is a multimedia freelancer, having worked for a number of publications and news teams, from Baltimore magazine to WBAL-TV 11. She is the founding editor of Strangers With Style, an online culture and lifestyle platform. Olivia studied journalism and new media at Towson University, is a proud 2011 Poynter Institute fellow, and is a recipient of a 2014 Maryland-Deleware-DC Press Editorial Award for feature story photo coverage. The spring legislative session in Springfield, Illinois, ended earlier this month — 6 a.m. Saturday, April 9, to be exact — but not without lawmakers taking the fight over votes through the Friday, April 8, deadline and into the early-morning hours of the weekend. The main legislation that pushed the General Assembly into overtime? The state budget. “The budget bill when it gets dropped is close to 3,000 pages,” said Bryan Zarou, the BGA’s director of policy.
