The House of Representatives has amended the Electoral Act 2026 to establish clearer rules for handling pre-election disputes, ending a long-standing problem where politicians exploited gaps in the law to drag cases through multiple courts. Under the changes, disputes over party primaries and other pre-election matters for governorship, national assembly, and state house of assembly elections will start at the Federal High Court. Any appeal must go to the Court of Appeal, which has the final say.

President Bola Tinubu has approved N2 billion in relief support for victims of the 29th March attack on Angwa Rukuba in Jos North LGA of Plateau State, in which at least 28 residents were killed after gunmen opened fire at a popular bar. The intervention was announced by Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Mohammed Dorro at a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, attended by a 32-man delegation from Plateau State.
