I. INTRODUCTION Most tooth-bearing non-mammalian vertebrates have the capacity to replace their teeth throughout life, a condition called polyphyodonty. Continuous renewal is a way to ensure that animals with indeterminate growth have a dentition that matches their body size throughout life.
