‘No noise’ as Davis football scores 31 unanswered points, Toula throws 5 TDs in rout
KAYSVILLE — Davis football head coach Scott Peery’s theme for the week was for his team to be laser-focused. He took it literally, and ordered about 100 keychain laser pointers for the team. “Started on Monday when we did that; I said it’s gotta be applied on Friday night, we got to have a clean game that’s executed well — and they did that tonight,” Peery said.

By PATRICK CARR - Special to the Standard-Examiner | Sep 4, 2026 BRIAN WOLFER, Special to the Standard-Examiner Weber High quarterback Carter Payne tucks the ball to run against Fremont during a football game Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, in Plain City. Prep football: Davis piles up lead on Fremont, keeps it this time in blowout win
PLAIN CITY — Davis High football jumped out to a three-touchdown lead on Fremont in the first half of their matchup Friday night, seemingly putting the Silverwolves in the dust. Sound familiar? It was just a year ago that Davis went ahead 21-0 in Kaysville only for Fremont to roar back and win 35-34 on a two-point conversion in overtime. There was no such repeat of last year’s cinematic contest.
Prep football: Ben Lomond shows electric moments, falls short of 28-point comeback
OGDEN — Friday’s season-opening, 41-33 loss for Ben Lomond football against North Sevier shows the Scots have quite a ways to go in 2026. They also may have reasons to feel optimistic. The Scots were down 28-0 late in the second quarter but had the score within 34-25 early in the fourth, and with a reasonable chance to get even closer. Seniors Kru Boyle, Dashawn Gordon and Jaylen Milton electrified the game with multiple big plays and scores.

Barker's game-winning FG in double OT sends Lone Peak past Davis, into semifinals
KASYVILLE — Lone Peak football should probably get the benefit of the doubt in a true road playoff game. Between 2015-24, the Knights had gone an incredible 6-0 in true road playoff games (not counting neutral-site semifinals or title games), having last lost a true road playoff game in 2014. After Friday, it's 7-0 since 2014.
Skyler Orton hits game-winning field goal as Syracuse beats Westlake
SYRACUSE — Skyler Orton stepped up for the game-winning 36-yard field goal, about 20 minutes removed from missing a similar length field goal that would've given his Syracuse a late lead against Westlake. The second time was the charm. Orton drilled the field goal as time expired, sending No. 8 Syracuse past No. 9 Westlake 31-28. "I feel good," Orton said.
Prep football playoffs: Orton nails FG as time expires to lift No. 8 Syracuse in victory
The Syracuse football team takes the field before a region football contest vs. Layton on Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, in Syracuse. SYRACUSE — At the 9:02 mark of the fourth quarter, Syracuse High football kicker Skyler Orton missed a 44-yard field goal, short and to the right. The kick would’ve given the No. 8 Titans a crucial 31-28 lead in their playoff game against No. 9 Westlake. Orton didn’t have to wonder for very long if he would get another chance.
West Field hangs on to beat Viewmont in playoff thriller, wins 1st playoff game in school history
TAYLOR — West Field's football team had mixed success against Viewmont's pass game in Friday's 5A first-round home playoff game. In particular, Vikings receiver Jayson Dunroe had nine catches for 224 yards and three touchdowns, per unofficial tallies. But West Field had four interceptions, one of which defensive lineman Logan McClure took back for a touchdown. Yet when it mattered most, West Field held on.
Woods Cross football wins 1st region title since 2014 by beating Viewmont
BOUNTIFUL — After a decade of toiling in Region 5, Woods Cross might want to stay in Region 6, its new home as a result of the latest high school sports realignment. The Wildcats won a share of the Region 6 title by beating Viewmont 43-8 Wednesday night, their first region title since 2014, which was also the last time they were in Region 6. "It feels good.
Fremont football runs through West Field to clinch share of Region 5 title
PLAIN CITY — The moon rose over the mountains northeast of Fremont High early in the second half of the Silverwolves' football game against West Field. On this night, the Silverwolves did not need to tap into the mystical powers of the moon, though. They were already ahead 37-3 by the time of moon rise, and wrestled the Longhorns to the turf by a final of 65-3 in a win that saw Fremont (7-2, 5-0 Region 5) clinch a share of the Region 5 title a year after winning the Region 1 title in 6A.
Davis, Farmington game postponed due to lightning delays, will resume Saturday
FARMINGTON — Davis and Farmington's football game Friday night had two lightning delays that ultimately postponed the game, rescheduling it to Saturday at 2 p.m. The Darts led 14-10 with 28 seconds left in the second quarter and the ball at the Farmington 13-yard line when play was stopped for a second time due to lightning in the area. The first lightning delay lasted 1 hour and 9 minutes.
Farmington stages 4th quarter comeback to beat Fremont on the road
PLAIN CITY — Farmington had lost its last three games, two of which by single digits — including last week's Region 1 opener against Weber. This week presented a whole host of additional challenges: a short week of practice before Thursday's televised non-region game at a one-loss Fremont, and rival Davis lurking on the schedule in a week's time. The Phoenix trailed most of the night, but rallied for a fourth-quarter comeback to beat Fremont 24-17 and to improve to 3-4.

Hall, Wight have big games as Syracuse football rolls past Layton
SYRACUSE — Head coach Mitch Tulane wanted Syracuse to execute the game plan on Friday against Layton, and he stressed the words "execute the game plan" in his voice. It didn't take anyone very long to see that Syracuse was indeed doing what Tulane wanted, yielding a 52-7 win for the Titans (5-1, 1-0 Region 1) in the Region 1 opener.
Fekitoa scores 2 touchdowns, defense locks in as Bountiful holds on against Park City
BOUNTIFUL — Senior running back Siaki Fekitoa scored two touchdowns and the Bountiful High defense held firm when it needed to in a 14-6 win for the Redhawks (2-3) against visit Park City (2-3) on Friday night. It wasn't so simple for the defending 5A state champions. Park City blocked Cooper Coleman's field goal with 2:18 left in a game that would have given Bountiful a two-score lead.
Corner Canyon reels off 36 unanswered points to put Fremont away on the road
PLAIN CITY — Corner Canyon' football team traveled a couple thousand miles to a different biome last week, swapping dry Utah for humid Florida, and still thumped West Broward (Florida) in what amounted to another flex of the Chargers' credentials outside of their home confines. If they had any jet lag coming back to the Mountain time zone earlier this week, the Chargers (3-0) didn't show it in a 67-21 win at Fremont, punctuated by 36 unanswered points in the second half.
Fremont blows out rival Weber 42-10 in season-opener
PLEASANT VIEW — The Weber-Fremont football rivalry game has always been scheduled in September or October, right around the middle or tail end of region play, right when the weather starts trending toward proverbial "football weather." Friday's meeting between the two county rivals had two firsts to it before kickoff: first time meeting in the season opener and first time meeting as non-region foes in the regular season (they met in the 1999 4A state semifinals).

Come this time next year, the championships will be at the same Weber County Ice Sheet where the club practices, contests league matches and hosts curling teaching events.

Top-seeded Roy football thrashes Viewmont to get to 1st state semifinal since 2018
ROY — For the last four years, Roy football's great regular seasons have ended with a home playoff loss. The bad memories include West's walkoff kick return touchdown in 2020, Westlake's game-winning field goal in 2021 (a 30-28 finish), Weber's blowout win in 2022 and Alta's goal-line stand in 2023. Friday night's quarterfinal against Viewmont was a rosy affair.
Tre Nye accounts for 4 TDs, Northridge wins 1st home playoff game since 2012
LAYTON — Northridge's football team went 6-4 in the regular season. Three of the losses were by single digits, and their turnover margin in those three losses was minus-8. In theory, they were 4-5 plays from being 9-1, which perhaps would've meant hoisting a region trophy. Pushing aside the should have, would have and could haves of 2024, Northridge came away with something nice on Friday.

Defense keys Fremont's 7-game win streak as Silverwolves beat Weber to clinch Region 1 title share
PLAIN CITY — It's been a while since Fremont football had this much to celebrate. The Silverwolves beat rival Weber 35-21 on Thursday to win their seventh straight game and to clinch a share of the Region 1 title. It's the school's longest win streak since it won eight straight in 2014, and the first region title since 2016, all coming against a team rival it had lost six of the last seven games against. "I love this team," Fremont senior running back Owen Simkins said.
Morris, Cella touchdowns help Roy football pull away late and stay unbeaten
ROY — Roy cornerback Zay Morris gave up a 38-yard catch on fourth down that helped keep a late comeback attempt by Woods Cross alive. He felt the ball was coming back to him. And when it did, he was ready. Morris picked off Wildcats quarterback Jesse Simmons at the goal line and ran it back 100 yards — really, he probably ran 115 yards — for an icing-on-the-cake touchdown in Roy's 33-14 win.

Ogden football races by Union to start 5-0 for the 1st time since 2009
OGDEN — Ogden's football team is 5-0 for the first time since 2009 after dismantling Union 42-7 in the teams' 3A North region opener Friday night. Cy Arnold rushed for three touchdowns, and quarterback Vinnie Apodaca threw two touchdown passes, both to sophomore Synic Harvey, and ran for a short touchdown himself. The game was played in the Union half of the field until early in the second quarter, and even then, the Cougars were in Ogden territory for all of four plays before an interception.
Prep football: Ogden routs Union 42-7 to start season 5-0
OGDEN — The long, storied history book that chronicles Ogden High football got another significant note added to it Friday night. The Tigers beat Union 42-7 to open 3A North region play, leading 34-0 at halftime and finishing the game with a running clock. That makes Ogden 5-0 for the first time since 2009. “It’s hard to tell what a team’s gonna be like when you have so many sophomores playing with seniors.
Syracuse hangs late on for low-scoring win over Bingham, wins 3rd straight game
SYRACUSE — Friday night's Syracuse-Bingham football game came down to the end. Syracuse kicker Easton Choate went 3-of-3 on field goals — from 42, 27 and 20 yards out — as the Titans led 9-0 midway through the fourth quarter. A Bingham touchdown cut the lead to 9-7, and the Miners got the ball back and drove down for the potential game-winning field goal off the foot of Tristen Eden. The comeback was not to be.
Prep football: Late stop caps Syracuse’s 9-7 win over Bingham
SYRACUSE — Syracuse High’s football team was already replacing about 75% of its starters from last year’s team, then had additional starters or would-be starters transfer out before the season. And, the Titans were breaking in a new head coach. Most signs pointed toward things being a struggle early on. They were, but after an 0-2 start, they’ve now won three straight games after a hang-on-for-dear-life, 9-7 win over a much bigger Bingham team on Friday night.
Weber football scores 29 unanswered points to beat Wasatch 35-16
PLEASANT VIEW — Wasatch started well in its football game at Weber on Friday. The Warriors controlled the middle and end. Weber scored 29 unanswered points to blow away Wasatch and move to 3-1 with a 35-16 win over the Wasps on Friday night. Wasatch was first to score after Ashton Nord picked off Carter Payne's bootleg screen pass and took it down to the Weber 6-yard line. William Anderson rumbled in from the 1-yard line three plays later for a 7-0 lead.
Prep football: Offense, defense, special teams help Weber thump Wasatch 35-16
PLEASANT VIEW — For all the change in Weber High’s football program between this season and last, the Warriors appear to be unfazed by it all. The high tide that lifted Weber to six wins in the final eight games of 2023 is still crashing on the south slopes of Ben Lomond. The Warriors are 3-1 after thumping Wasatch 35-16 on Friday night behind equal parts, offense, defense and special teams.
Robert Young scores 5 touchdowns as Roy football holds off rival Weber 48-34
ROY — Everyone in Regions 1 and 5 knows that Roy High senior running back/athlete Robert Young is a defensive coordinator's nightmare. He'd already racked up 356 total yards on 11 touches across rushing, receiving and returning in Roy's first two games. In a rivalry game against Weber Friday, Young showed all of that explosiveness and ability, and then some. Young totaled five touchdowns in the Royals' 48-34 win over the Warriors.
Prep football: Roy seniors make big plays, Royals route Farmington 38-14
FARMINGTON -- Roy High's football team has to walk a fine line this season, with many seniors starting on both sides of the ball increasing the chances of injuries. It's a gamble the Royals kind of have to take given their talent, experience and potential. Those seniors help make the Royals a likely contender for the Region 5 title and perhaps a deep playoff run. Those seniors inflicted damage early and often to put away an inexperienced Farmington High team 38-14 to open the season Friday night.
