NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A bill signed Thursday aims to transform sickle cell disease care across Virginia, with Gov. Gov. Abigail Spanberger saying it should be a model for the rest of the country. As the governor signed the bill, HR 8067, hundreds could be seen wearing Candis King’s favorite color, pink, honoring the teen who died from sickle cell disease at just 15 years old. King’s parents were by Spanberger’s side as the Queen Candis Act was signed.
