Ukraine launches counter on Russia
Russia began their war against Ukraine eight and a half years ago. In 2014, Russian military forces invaded the Crimean peninsula, overrunning their government and taking the region under de-facto control. Eight months ago, Moscow escalated their war effort, attempting to take the Ukrainians by surprise and overthrow their democratically elected government in a series of failed military operations.
OPINION EXCHANGE | Lessening the urban/rural solar divide
One of us was a fourth-generation farmer, and the other has called the Twin Cities home for more than 40 years. While our backgrounds and experiences differ, we share a commitment to the economic and environmental well-being of all Minnesotans and the importance of rural-urban partnerships to accomplish these goals. Here is a modest proposal that, while it would not resolve all our urban/rural differences, could lessen them while indicating how we might reduce them even more.

Kill By Kill: Talking Horror Characters One Death At A Time: KBK After Dark

Kill By Kill: Talking Horror Characters One Death At A Time: KBK After Dark
37 min Oh how the tables have turned! After the “barely erotic” “not a thriller” A Night in Heaven, Patrick plucks out a film just as inessential: 1992’s TRACES OF RED starring James “sex machine” Belushi, Lorraine Bracco’s Melanie Griffith impression, and Florida plays itself.

Gay on the Fringe: Gay Camp
When I first moved to New York, I went to see The Party, a gay play that was basically a ninety-minute-or-so strip tease, where the entire (all-male) cast, for various reasons, ended up naked. Like, full frontal naked. It was the longest, most unsatisfying foreplay I've ever experienced, and the least fun I've had (and most I've ever paid) to end up in a room of half-a-dozen naked men. Since then, my mantra has been, "If I want theater, I'll go to Broadway.

Wallabies star Israel Folau agreed "to think about" the impact of his anti-gay comments on social media, but he did not commit to stop making them after a meeting with rugby bosses Tuesday. Black (Panther) power?
Comics’ first black superhero—Marvel’s Black Panther—is undergoing a bit of a renaissance this spring. The character, played by Chadwick Boseman, will soon join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, debuting in May’s Captain America: Civil War before headlining his own film, scheduled for release in 2018.
GUEST COLUMN: Race, as seen through a comic book hero - Rome News-Tribune: Columns
This sudden ascendancy aside, Black Panther’s history has more often been suggestive of the limits impinging black identity in the United States. He and Wakanda, the fictional African nation he rules, first appeared in “Fantastic Four” No. 52 (July 1966) but evoked the stereotype of the “noble savage,” juxtaposing wondrous technology and primitive stereotypes.

Even superheroes no match for racial divide
If you've been paying attention to comics recently, you probably know that Captain America is now black. While the monetary motives behind Marvel's decision to make such a dramatic change are not hard to guess - gin up some publicity, increase sales, set up the inevitable and lucrative return of the original Cap Steve Rogers - the transition to a black Cap also reflects the continuing struggle with race in America. Race-swapping is hardly new to comics.
