SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Seven-year-old Truman Shumaker was diagnosed with leukemia at age 3. His family says the diagnosis turned their world upside down, but treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has helped him push through. He is now nearing the end of treatment. Truman’s mother, Valerie Shumaker, said the first signs were scary and uncertain. The family initially thought it might be COVID-19. “It’s just like the whole floor drops out from under you,” she said.
