When the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced last week that it would devote more resources to Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases, the press coverage was, understandably, quite positive. After all, there is a great deal we still need to learn about these infections — how to prevent them, how to diagnose them earlier (and more accurately, the optimal treatments), and how best to care for patients who continue to feel unwell after treatment.
