What was your first job as a journalist?
In my mid 20s I was a news intern at The Christian Science Monitor's Monitor Radio.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Of course. I came of age in the 80s. Learned to type on electric typewriters and actually took one to college (where I converted to Macs).
How is social media changing news?
Social media changes the way information is disseminated and news is consumed. What it takes to be a good reporter hasn't changed at all.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
William Miller, the 15 year-old accidental journalist from the film Almost Famous.

Why did you become a journalist?
I got my first taste of life in a news room as an intern in my mid 20s and felt like I had (finally) found my tribe. I was hooked.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I worked for the yearbook, not the newspaper. However, I did host a radio show at a local college radio station.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I take pride in everything I do.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Write. All the time. Go out and meet people face to face. Uncover stories that are new. Don't be satisfied to merely recycle information.
