The DC-CFA2 results were published at noon today, and four operators have been awarded a slice of the 200MW of data centre capacity on Jurong Island. In alphabetical order, they are Digital Realty, Equinix, Keppel Data Centres, and ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC). As I explained yesterday, the DC-CFA is part of Singapore's controlled-growth regime for approving new data centres. I guessed there would be four winners, and it turns out I was right.

Singapore's 200MW data centre race is nearly over

It's been 129 days since submissions for Singapore's DC-CFA2 closed. The winners of this 200MW race could be announced any day now. Here's what I can say. The DC-CFA, or Data Centre Call for Application, is part of Singapore's controlled-growth regime for approving new data centres. It came on the heels of a moratorium in 2019 that lasted around three years. The pilot round, announced in 2023, saw the eventual allocation of 80MW of capacity to four winners.

As I mentioned yesterday, data centres rely on UPS systems for power protection. Most use chemical batteries. DRUPS doesn't have any onboard, and it has been deployed in data centres for decades. So how does it work, and what are its strengths and weaknesses?
