Megan Stephenson’s Biography

I have lived in four states and three countries; self-diagnosed with wanderlust.

I have worked for a high-circulation daily, The Quad City Times on the Iowa/Illinois border; community-based weekly papers The Molokai Dispatch in Hawaii and currently the North Kitsap Herald in Washington State; and freelanced for cultural magazines and websites, such as History News Network and the River Cities Reader in Iowa.

Other passions: dinosaurs, good coffee, literature, swimming.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, my grandfather's. I admire the early days of journalism, just your mind, the phone (if lucky), paper and ink.

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

Know the area. I love having stories dropped in my lap, but I work for a hyper-localized paper and my readers care about their backyard.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Twitter, Facebook, the phonebook, Google, computer, Adobe products, iMovie, Audacity.
