Loneliness, restless sleep, and incident possible or confirmed sarcopenia among middle-aged and older Chinese adults
Abstract Loneliness and sleep problems may mark vulnerability to sarcopenia, but prospective evidence on their co-occurrence is limited. Using 2011 and 2015 CHARLS data, we examined loneliness, restless sleep, and their joint exposure in relation to incident possible or confirmed sarcopenia. The unweighted complete-case analysis included 6,614 participants free of either category at baseline. Loneliness and restless sleep were coded from two CES-D-10 items.
The Man Who Built China’s Screen Giant Is Betting on RISC-V
Wang Dongsheng has already spent one career proving that a Chinese company could compete in one of the technology industry’s most capital-intensive businesses. In 1993, he led the creation of BOE, the display manufacturer that would grow into one of the world’s largest producers of screens. BOE supplied the panels through which hundreds of millions of people encountered televisions, laptops and smartphones—even when they never saw its name. Wang left the company’s chairmanship in 2019.
An open-framework boron allotrope exhibiting high conductivity and plasticity
Abstract Boron allotropes have attracted interest due to their diverse structural motifs and unusual properties; however, despite the many phases identified so far, achieving a boron allotrope that simultaneously exhibits high electrical conductivity and plasticity remains challenging. Here we report the synthesis of Imma-B60, an allotrope that exhibits both high electrical conductivity and plastic deformability, via the high-pressure formation of a Na4B60 precursor followed by sodium degassing.
The Race to Mass-Produce Silicon Photonics
The artificial intelligence boom is usually measured in chips. More powerful models require more accelerators, larger clusters and data centers capable of supplying extraordinary amounts of electricity. But as those clusters expand, computing power is becoming only part of the problem. The machines must also exchange data quickly enough to behave like a single system. That is turning light into a critical part of the AI supply chain.
The AI Boom Has a Bandwidth Problem
The popular story of artificial intelligence begins with the processor. Bigger models require more GPUs, more power and ever-larger data centers. Yet once thousands of accelerators are assembled into a single computing cluster, another problem emerges: the chips must constantly exchange enormous volumes of data, and they are only as useful as the network connecting them. This is where optical transceivers enter the picture.
How Excelland Robotics Puts Robots to Work
At night, some of the most consequential robots in China are the ones nobody notices. They move quietly through hotel corridors, wait for elevators, carry deliveries across campuses and clean underground car parks after most people have gone home. They do not walk like humans, hold conversations or perform on a stage. Their value lies somewhere less dramatic: they show up, complete a defined task and do it again the next day.
From USB Controllers to Lexar: How Longsys Built a Global Memory Business
Most people notice storage only when it runs out. A smartphone runs out of space for photos. A laptop slows under the weight of large files. A camera needs a faster memory card before it can record high-resolution video. Behind these everyday frustrations sits a less visible layer of the technology industry: the companies that design, assemble and sell the memory products used by consumer devices, vehicles, servers and industrial equipment.

Preacetylation of Kraft Lignin Facilitates Acid-Catalyzed Depolymerization in Acidic Deep Eutectic Solvents to Obtain Lignin Oil With High Antioxidant Activity
1 Introduction Kraft lignin, as a natural and renewable phenolic compound, possesses a certain degree of antioxidant activity and has been successfully applied in packaging materials and cosmetics as an antioxidant additive [1]. However, due to its complex structure and high degree of cross-linking, the antioxidant activity is inferior to that of synthetic antioxidants, limiting its broader application [2].
China’s AI models are closing the gap with overseas rivals on a different cost curve
China’s AI model market is beginning to compete on cost as much as capability. Leading Chinese models may cost roughly one-tenth as much to train as comparable overseas systems, while their API prices often sit at 10% to 20% of foreign alternatives, according to UBS estimates. If enterprise users increasingly judge AI by the return on each token rather than raw model performance, that cost gap could become a commercial advantage rather than a temporary pricing tactic.
CXMT becomes China’s most valuable A-share company after $8.6 billion IPO
ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China’s largest DRAM maker, raised RMB57.92 billion ($8.6 billion) in its Shanghai STAR Market IPO on July 27, in what became the largest mainland semiconductor offering on record. By the midday break, its shares had risen 531% from the IPO price, pushing its market value to RMB3.66 trillion and making it the most valuable company listed on China’s mainland exchanges, according to report. Why it matters: CXMT’s debut is significant first because of its scale.
DeepSeek puts AGI research ahead of products and commercial growth
According to a report by IT Home, DeepSeek, the Chinese AI developer behind the open-source R1 reasoning model, is prioritizing artificial general intelligence (AGI) research over building a consumer platform or maximizing near-term revenue. The report is based on a circulated transcript of a four-hour investor meeting involving founder Liang Wenfeng.

Mechanistic insights into cannabidiol-mediated TrkB activation via FRS2 interaction in attenuating Alzheimer’s disease pathology and cognitive impairment
Abstract Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by progressive synaptic failure, neuroinflammation, amyloid and tau pathology, yet effective disease-modifying therapies remain limited. Cannabidiol (CBD) has shown neuroprotective potential in AD, but its direct molecular targets and signaling mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that CBD ameliorates cognitive and emotional deficits in 3×Tg-AD mice by restoring synaptic integrity and plasticity.
While Musk Dreams of a Cyborg Future, BrainCo Delivers Today
In a video that previously circulated through the tech world, Elon Musk painted a specific vision for the year 2025: a future where invasive Neuralink technology melds with Optimus humanoid robots to restore lost limbs. It was a promise of sci-fi becoming reality. But for Cicy Zhang, watching that video from her office in China, the reaction was different. It wasn’t awe at the future; it was a sense of déjà vu.

Plato and Aristotle, specifically their different opinions about poetry
Plato viewed poetry as a threat, believing it could stir unnecessary emotions and limit the pursuit of truth. He considered it a false representation of reality, leading people away from rational thought. On the contrary. Aristotle embraced poetry, viewing it as a powerful tool for teaching and catharsis. He believed that through tragedy in poetry, audiences could experience and release emotional tension, thus promoting personal growth and understanding.
