Paternal use of metformin and risk of major congenital malformations: A meta-analysis of 4 studies

What is already known about this subject Paternal use of metformin has been associated with a 40% increased risk of congenital malformation in a Danish registry-based study. This gave rise to substantial and widespread concern among physicians and prospective fathers. Three subsequent studies with data from the United States, Norway, Taiwan and Israel did not confirm this finding.

We measured the concentrations of cefuroxime and metronidazole in the peritoneal fluid with microdialysis technique in patients undergoing surgery for secondary peritonitis (7 patients) and for inflammatory bowel disease (11 patients).
