I watched about 28 minutes of the Wimbledon men’s singles final on Sunday, which is 28 more minutes of tennis watching than I did both leading up to it and will do for the rest of the year. And as I was taking it in, I asked myself a question: Why the hell is tennis’ scoring system the way that it is? So I opened my iPhone, went onto Safari and typed the following in-depth query: “Tennis scoring why.” I didn’t even put a freaking question mark on it.
