As I arrive at the home of Hillsborough’s new Poet Laureate, I am immediately welcomed with offerings of tea and an irresistible Lebanese-inspired date cake. Selected as Hillsborough’s Poet Laureate for 2025–2027, Amal Kassir brings both a global and local perspective to her poetry. She’s a Syrian American writer who moved to Hillsborough from Houston with her husband in 2023. They bought a farm and settled into their new community, and since then, she has also embraced her new role as a mother.
