Study on the composition characteristics of the intestinal microbiota in three species of cranes under captive conditions
1 Introduction The gut microbiota, often called the host’s “invisible organ” plays a pivotal role in essential physiological processes, including nutrient metabolism, vitamin synthesis, pathogen suppression, and immune regulation (Liu Y. et al., 2021; Mokhtari et al., 2021; Sun et al., 2025). The structural stability of the gut microbiota is closely linked to the host’s ability to adapt to environmental changes (Zhang K. et al., 2024).
