1 Introduction In 1996, as a PhD student, I attended my first ICIS meeting in Providence RI with my mentor Harlene Hayne where we presented our preliminary findings on infant learning from television. Carolyn Rovee Collier, a pioneering infancy researcher, was the ICIS president and she talked about shifting the focus of research from what to why. I went on to do my post-doctoral training with Rovee-Collier.
