What Makes A Medical Alert System Reliable For Seniors In Canada?
As the ageing population of Canada continues to increase, the safety and well-being of older adults has become a major concern. The elderly seek to retain their autonomy but remain secure, and the families seek assurance that their loved ones can easily be assisted in case of emergency. Medical alert systems have helped fulfill this requirement, enabling seniors to get help in case of a fall, sudden illness, or other emergency needs at home, outside, or when traveling.

Connecting through creating
Rebecca Smith | 17th May, 2023 In our busy world, opportunities for younger and older people to connect and learn from one another are few and far between. Yet research has shown that intergenerational connections benefit everyone. Relationships between older and younger people provide a sense of connection to the past and to the future. Getting to know older adults helps children form a better sense of who they are, where they have come from and how they fit into this world.

After the mass shooting at Michigan State University last month, which left three students dead and injured five others, SLCC community members are left thinking about what they would do if the same were to happen on their home campus. “We give three principles: run, hide, fight,” said Shane Crabtree, associate vice president of public safety.

Opinion: ShotSpotter profits off fears of gun violence
Many Detroiters were shocked and appalled last Thursday when, during a community meeting, city officials and the Detroit Police Department set up cardboard tombstones as a promotional stunt to generate support for the proposed expansion of the ShotSpotter program. Every Detroiter deserves to feel safe. But this charade of security theater is not the way to do it.

Missouri physicians worried about rise in severe complications among COVID-19 positive pregnant women
Throughout the summer, Missouri was an early hot spot for the delta variant of the coronavirus. This led to more unvaccinated young people becoming severely ill, and as more young people got sick, more expectant mothers did too. Now, many obstetricians and gynecologists across the state are worried. They say they are seeing more severe pregnancy complications in women who have or had COVID-19 — a rise in miscarriages, emergency pre-term deliveries and even stillbirth.

Nutrition For Seniors: What Caregivers Should Know
Proper nutrition is essential for an aging person. Every caregiver ought to ensure he/she provides just the right food to seniors. One of the reasons for this is the fact the senior’s digestive system might not be as strong/sharp as it was a few decades ago. Body processes are also slower, which again increases the risk of nutritional deficiencies among other health concerns. Taking into consideration the senior’s diet plan is the first step to making them comfortable and healthy for your home care.

I Embraced Being Plus-Size & Finally Got My Style Back
My flight was leaving in 12 hours and I had everything packed except an outfit for the wedding at the center of the trip. I was surrounded by discarded clothing; and as my closet got sparser, there was less hiding my antagonist from me. Said antagonist was a dress — a dress I loved the minute I put it on, even though everything around me told me I should hate it. The fact that I had exactly what I wanted to wear hanging in the back of my closet and still was still questioning it was absurd.
I Embraced Being Plus-Size & Finally Got My Style Back
In some cases, looking like a past-self would be horrible. But, for me, it felt like a homecoming. My wardrobe used to be full of daring pieces. In high school and college I wore multiple silhouettes, prints, and colors. But something about adding a few pounds and veering into a territory where I needed to consider perusing the plus-size options, made me pause.

The Reality Of Motherless Births By Rebecca Ann Smith
As Mother’s Day approaches, Female First speaks to the author of the thought provoking novel Baby X about the reality of Motherless births and what they could mean for women.
