Whether it’s younger or newer players showing potential or veterans dominating, the DawgNation team answered this question going into Georgia’s Week 2 matchup against Western Kentucky: What player flashed the most in the season opener? SEC in NCAA Tournament: Florida path to title seems easiest among conference schools
The SEC bounces into Sweet 16 action Thursday and Friday still meaning more and looking better than ever in the NCAA Tournament. When Florida took down two-defending champion Connecticut on Saturday, the Gators snatched the proverbial torch from the Huskies, perhaps the most tourney-tested of the teams remaining in the tourney.

Georgia Bulldogs playing in another Sugar Bowl is a great way to go out
NEW ORLEANS - Greetings from the Big Easy. Yes, I'm here. Yes, I know I retired. It's complicated. First of all, I'm not here on assignment for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. I'm here at the behest of Christy Towers. My sweet wife and fellow UGA alum actually has never attended a Georgia football game with me. Oh, we've been to plenty of stadiums together.
‘Mountain blood’ powers Georgia QB Gunner Stockton
ATHENS – "Mountain Blood." Those who have spent any significant time living in the upper fifth or so of our fair state take such an expression to heart. It's different up there in the mountains, just as South Georgia is markedly different from Metro Atlanta. For they are nothing at all like the mountain towns that are scattered along winding roads where the foothills start the climb to the Appalachian Plateau, the Georgia Gold Belt and the Blue Ridge.
Georgia Bulldogs 'hyped' for De'Shayne Montgomery's season debut
ATHENS - The eventual activation of guard De'Shayne Montgomery has created enough excitement in the Georgia Bulldogs' camp to wonder if they might've crossed the line from hyped to overhyped. Nah, say the Bulldogs. "Y'all are going to see. He's different, for sure," junior forward RJ Godfrey said. "An energy guy who can provide a little bit of everything on (offense and defense)," guard Silas Demary said. Said coach Mike White: "'I'm excited. Our whole staff is excited.
Georgia football teammates remember Daniel 'Big Dan' Inman, who died Monday
ATHENS - He blocked for Georgia quarterbacks David Greene, D.J. Shockley and Matthew Stafford. He coached football with David Perno and Damien Gary. He stayed busy trying to turn two young boys into men. Daniel Inman was a lot of things to a lot of people. All of them agree he is gone much too soon. Inman died Monday after a 10-day hospital stay because of a heart ailment, according to his friends. He was 41.
Georgia Bulldogs basketball relaunches in Holiday Hoopsgiving tournament
ATHENS - It's "been a minute" since we've seen Georgia men's basketball in action. But for the Bulldogs (8-1), who resume play Saturday in the Holiday Hoopsgiving tournament at State Farm Arena (6 p.m., SEC Network), that 11-day break might have been a good thing. At least coach Mike White thinks so. "For the first time in a long time, we (had) a chance to focus on us," coach Mike White said after the most recent game, a 69-48 win over Notre Dame on Dec. 3.
Georgia congressman jokingly demands ‘Texas be sent back to the Big 12′ Original
ATHENS — Send them back to the Big 12. That was the recommendation of U.S. Rep. Mike Collins (R), who used his time on the floor of the nation’s Capitol Tuesday to advise the Texas Longhorns to head on back to the Big 12 Conference rather than try to make a name for themselves in the rough-and-tumble SEC. Texas accepted an invitation to join Southeastern Conference membership in 2021 and played their first season in the football-centric league this year.

5 things we learned from Georgia’s SEC Championship win over Texas
ATHENS – Carson Beck will undergo an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) test on his right arm on Sunday. You know, if he can get one. Wink! OK, so the Georgia Bulldogs own their machine. Don't expect a "stat" order for those results. Sometime after noon should be fine. That's when the College Football Playoff's selection committee was due to release their final rankings for the 2024 postseason.
No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs prepare for transfer portal, Sugar Bowl Original
ATHENS – Georgia coach Kirby Smart was in a good mood on Sunday, as well he should be. The Bulldogs’ ninth-year coach certainly had to be feeling some relief after winning the program’s 15th SEC Championship -- third during his watch – and locking up a first-round bye Sunday as the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff. Certainly he is also aware that those accomplishments so far have netted him $800,000 in bonuses.

Georgia RB Trevor Etienne turns in ‘MVP’ performance Original
Daylen Everette, Tate Ratledge and Kirby Smart all giggled in unison when the SEC’s press conference moderator Kevin Trainer introduced Everette as the SEC Championship game’s MVP. Not that the junior cornerback wasn’t deserving. He made several huge plays in Georgia’s 22-19 overtime win Saturday over Texas to secure the SEC title, including a late fourth-quarter interception. But even Everette knew there was someone more deserving of that particular award.
Georgia defeats Texas in overtime to lock up CFP spot
By Chip Towers, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ATLANTA - There were multiple victories scored by Georgia here at Mercedes-Benz Saturday. The biggest one - a 22-19 overtime win over No. 2 Texas -- comes with that oversized SEC Championship trophy that now will be housed with the others in the Butts-Mehre Football Complex back in Athens and a giant dose of Bulldog pride. The others logged by the Bulldogs are less tangible but every bit as significant. Let's see:

Everything to know about No. 2 Texas vs. No. 5 Georgia for SEC Championship game Original
Mercedes-Benz Stadium is expected to be stuffed to the brim again when Georgia and Texas square off for the SEC Championship game Saturday. A record crowd of 78,320 squeezed in for last year’s game between the Bulldogs and Alabama and there may be close to that many this year. There are conflicting reports as to how excited the Longhorns’ fan base is to being in the game. Earlier this week, VividSeats.com reported a 157% spike of traffic on its website with an average sales price of $574.
For Texas, SEC football championship would solidify idea that they’re ‘back’
ATLANTA — Remember when Sam Ehlinger infamously declared Texas was “back” after the Longhorns beat Georgia, 28-21, in New Orleans at the 2019 Sugar Bowl? Well, it wasn’t back. Neither, then, were the Longhorns back in 2016, when that phrase became part of college football’s lexicon. Credit — or should that be blame? — goes to ABC broadcaster Joe Tessitore. After Texas scored an exciting 50-47 win over Notre Dame on Sept. 4, 2016, Tessitore declared, “Texas is back, folks!” It wasn’t then either.
