Since my pre-teen days, I have been a fan of "road" stories, be they books, articles, essays or short stories. When my wife, Liz, and I pack up and travel by car a couple of times a year, those stories come flooding back. Many people are familiar with "On the Road," Jack Kerouac's tale of the cross-country search of Dean Moriarty and Sal Paradise for truth and some deeper meaning of life. Other than having the best title, it was never my favorite "road" story.
