Nine gold mine workers die in Indonesia landslide

Heavy rain and a dangerous landslide have claimed nine lives at the Minangkabau Gold Mine, 115km northeast of Padang in Indonesia’s West Sumatra province. Authorities are investigating how a 30-metre-high cliff collapsed onto the illegal mining operation on 14 May 2026. The disaster affected a total of 12 workers, of whom only three returned home at the end of their shift.

Glencore Oaky Creek coal worker suffers burns

Glencore (LSE:GLEN) has an employee recovering from sustained burns following an incident at its Oaky Creek Coal Project, 102km northeast of Emerald. The Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) responded to Triple Zero calls that a male aged over 50 had his face exposed to extreme heat shortly after opening a generator cabinet at about 10:38am on 21 May 2026.
