National Adoption Day: There is still a national crisis
This month, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of National Adoption Day, during which thousands of children were adopted from foster care at events in communities nationwide. Sadly, the number of children still waiting for a safe, loving home is far too high, and we must continue to address this crisis with urgency and intention.

Child-Focused Recruitment: What is It and Why Does It Work?
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption exists for one reason: To dramatically increase the number of children adopted from foster care. Currently there are more than 130,000 children in the U.S. and Canada waiting for permanent loving homes. And each year more than 20,000 youth turn 18 or 21 and leave foster care without the adoptive family promised to them. The number of children waiting to be adopted from U.S. foster care has consistently exceeded the number of finalized adoptions.
Unadoptable is unacceptable - The New Family
Why we have to do better to ensure the 30,000 children waiting to be adopted in Canada don’t leave foster care with nowhere to go. Each year, thousands of children enter foster care through no fault of their own—they have been abused, abandoned and/or neglected. For too many, the abuse has risen to such a level that the courts have permanently severed any rights of the abusive parents, resulting in a child legally freed or eligible for adoption and simply waiting for a family and a home.
