Habemus papam.

Former President Donald Trump said he was going to hold a “press conference” on Friday in the wake of his Thursday conviction in Manhattan on felony charges of falsifying business records. Instead, Trump delivered a rambling monologue that was filled with false claims on subjects ranging from the Manhattan trial to immigration to tax policy. Here is a fact check of some of the inaccurate or unsubstantiated claims related to his trial.
Herald articles point out lack of fiscal responsibility
Dear Editor, I found within the Thursday's, Jan. 25, 2024, edition of the Clinton Herald some quite interesting articles. First was front page article concerning the Dewitt Park lawsuit with a side discussion of the YWCA's continuing attempt to plunder this city park as well as the Clinton area's property taxpayers to provide transitional housing.
Local government needs more thought put into expenditures
Recently, there have been several Clinton Herald articles dealing with county supervisors talking about shortfalls in the tax revenue. Yet, two county supervisors still went ahead and approved the $500,000 payment of taxpayer funds to the YWCA money grab of federal tax dollars that local taxpayers have contributed to as well. What was not included in discussions was an unfunded future yearly budget with no visible means of finances to cover these expenses.
Commentary: Texas lawmakers fail the courage test on guns
Unlike my father, the Texas Legislature has forgotten that basic concept. Since 2009, the Legislature has loosened gun regulations and tried to constrain mass shootings in our state. The results of their utterly inadequate efforts have only been more mass shootings, more gun purchases, gun thefts and individuals who shoot when they lose their temper. While gun violence in Texas has mirrored national trends, the incidence of gun violence in Texas is increasing faster than the national average.

On Tuesday night the January 6th Committee voted unanimously (9-0) to find Steve Bannon in contempt for failing to respond to the subpoena requesting documents and to appear for a deposition. The full House will vote on Thursday and, if that resolution passes, it goes to the DOJ as a criminal referral. The House can take further action as well? TFG has witness-tampered by putting the kibosh on any attempts to talk to his cronies, including Bannon. But the Committee has vowed to not back down.

President Trump Was Served with a Summons for Being in Violation of the US Constitution
Trump may be stacking the SCOTUS with justices who would protect him…but it didn’t stop him from getting hit with a summons this time. Attorneys general of Washington, D.C., and Maryland allege that Donald Trump has been and continues to violate the “Emoluments Clause” — otherwise known as Title of Nobility Clause, which is a provision in Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the United States Constitution.
Bad News for Trump: Constant Investigations Have Revealed Decades of Damning Connections between Trump, the Russian Government, and the KGB
Though the investigation may be official over, President Trump and his associates remain under the microscope for possible collusion with the Russian government during the 2016 U.S. Presidential election. While this shouldn’t be new news to most Americans, questions have arisen as to how and why did Trump have any tie to Russia. Thankfully, the Mueller investigation helped bring to light some of the answers Americans want.

Thank you note from Presbyterian Church USA
Thank you for the carefully written story by Brian Argabright on the front page of Sunday’s edition of the Del Rio News-Herald about Mr. Lindsay Ward. Brian did an excellent job articulating the finer points of our Presbyterian Church USA polity in a disturbing case like this. Sadly, Mr. Ward has grossly misrepresented himself within the community as a “minister” in the congregation of First Presbyterian Church which is NOT the case.

Re-imagining the Conference Experience in the Age of Coronavirus
On Friday the 13th, Medscape reported that 26 medical conferences were being cancelled or postponed. Reactions from commenters were mixed, from “remember the Biogen folks,” to “I don’t see the reason for the hysteria” (and stronger reactions as well). The healthcare industry is uniquely dependent on human interactions, from robust conversations between the field force and HCPs, to the energy and innovation at Congresses, to the vital, everyday meetings between HCPs and the people they care for.

Trump Tower in Chicago Is Rapidly Losing Money; Others Trump Properties in "Steep Decline"
So America’s most notorious businessman became the President. Surely that new title can only help all his business ventures, right? After all, he DOES get to charge weekends at Mar-a-Lago to the taxpayers now – even the bar tabs – and then he gets to pocket that money. He and Vice President Pence can also use his tanking golf resorts as hosts to international heads-of-state.

National Public Radio took it upon themselves to investigate these glorious claims and were able to prove most of them incorrect. The NPR “Embedded” podcast team was featured on Morning Edition.
President Trump Hurled Insults at Mike Pence over Family Pets in Washington
Are you a dog person or a cat person? If you are Donald Trump – the answer is neither. Among a seemingly never-ending stream of insults that have been hurled toward Trump’s own cabinet, reports reveal that Trump is less than happy that Vice President Mike Pence and family brought their pets with them to Washington. But would we expect any less from the Trump – nothing else he has done or said thus far in his presidency has made sense, why start now?

A Republican Party Leader Resigned His Position because of Trump, His White House, and His Policies: 'I Can No Longer Remain Silent'
Perhaps this points to an eventual split of the Republican Party. Perhaps it will simply further embolden the angry alt-right that has taken control of the GOP. Either way, this resignation is one that has to sting. Brandon DeFrain, the chairman of the Republican Party in Bay County, Michigan, announced recently that he was resigning from his position. He had served as chairman since 2014.

The Growth of Neuromarketing and Predicting a Campaign’s Success
What if you could predict how successful a campaign would be before you launched it? What if you knew how consumers truly felt about your brand, and not just how they say they feel? What if you could accurately measure how much a campaign is actually resonating with your target audience? All of this is becoming more possible by the day as the field of neuromarketing continues to expand. MOD, the Philadelphia-based human experience agency, is just one such company in the space.
Keller @ Large: Both Sides Getting What They Want From Robert Mueller Testimony
By Jon KellerJuly 24, 2019 at 1:23 pm BOSTON (CBS) – Rep. Doug Collins (R-Georgia), the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, said it all about Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s appearance early on in the proceedings Wednesday. “Nothing we hear today will change those facts,” he said. The facts, that is, held to by partisans on both sides. Surely, no Republicans or Trump sympathizers will be swayed by what they heard Wednesday morning.
Keller @ Large: Robert Mueller Statement Helps Push For Trump Impeachment
By Jon KellerMay 29, 2019 at 12:53 pm BOSTON (CBS) – Remember Joe Isuzu, the fictional TV car salesman of the 1980s whose oleaginous pitches were accompanied by graphics explaining what the real truth was? Special counsel Robert Mueller is no Joe Isuzu. But his careful legalese lends itself to some more-blunt accompanying analysis.

During a recent episode of his ‘Real Time’ program, he called out Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) for continuing his pursuit of Trump after the Mueller report found no Russia collusion.
