The Evidentiary Gap: Why Host Isolation Won’t Satisfy the SEC or Your Cyber Insurer
Authored by Robert Bond, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Digital Forensics, Exterro When an endpoint detection alert triggers in the Security Operations Center (SOC), the standard response playbook prioritizes containment: isolate the endpoint, terminate active processes, and prevent lateral spread across the network. On paper, the immediate threat is neutralized. In corporate governance and legal terms, however, containment is only the beginning. Because host isolation is not forensic evidence.
EU Cyber Resilience Act Reporting Obligations Begin September 2026
The EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) introduces mandatory 24-hour reporting for exploited vulnerabilities and severe incidents starting September 11, 2026. For organizations creating hardware or software, accelerating compliance readiness is critical to avoiding severe fines and maintaining access to the European Union market. While the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) will not take full effect until December 11, 2027, a critical early deadline is rapidly approaching.
Finding the Answer Inside a Large Collection: Internal Investigations with FTK 8.3
Authored by Robert Bond, Senior Product Marketing Manager, Digital Forensics, Exterro Most internal investigations begin the same way. Something has been reported: a policy violation, an allegation of unauthorized data access, a concern raised about someone's conduct. The matter is sensitive, the population of potentially relevant data is large, and nobody yet knows which part of it holds the answer. What follows is rarely a technical problem.
Michael Carrick sends clear message to Man United's leaky defence led by Luke Shaw and Maguire
Michael Carrick expressed profound frustration after Manchester United conceded a dramatic late equaliser to draw 2-2 with Everton, admitting the result felt like a defeat. The English manager was disappointed with his defence, led by his countryman pair of left-back Luke Shaw and centre-back Harry Maguire — the two most experienced defenders at the club. During the game, Benjamin Sesko looked to have secured all three points for United with an 88th-minute header at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
After the Alert: How AI-Driven Forensics Turns Endpoint Activity into Evidence
Authored by Robert Bond, Product Marketing Manager, Digital Forensics at Exterro Security teams are not short on alerts. They are short on answers they can trust, document, and act on. EDR, XDR, SIEM, and other detection tools identify suspicious activity, surface risk, and help teams respond quickly when something looks wrong. But detection is not investigation.
The Implicit Mandate: Why Detailed Investigations Are Functionally Required Under HIPAA’s Breach Notification Rule
Why This Alert Is Important Under HIPAA’s stringent breach presumption framework, healthcare organizations and public sector entities face an implicit legal mandate to leverage granular data discovery to successfully rebut assumptions of data compromise and meet unyielding 60-day notification deadlines. Overview Text When a healthcare organization suffers a cyberattack, the HIPAA Breach Notification Rule triggers an immediate obligation to conduct a detailed risk assessment.

ABSTRACT There is an on-going debate about the degree to which Americans’ self-reported beliefs in falsehoods are expressive, serving to increase respondents’ standing with their political in-group and to sway others, or sincere.
Trump’s memo threatening immigration attorneys is a classic bullying tactic. We lawyers can’t cave.
Philadelphia’s legal community is facing mounting pressure following the Trump administration’s recent memo targeting immigration attorneys. The directive, which instructs the attorney general to investigate immigration lawyers for allegedly coaching clients to lie, lacks specific evidence but risks intimidating legal advocates representing vulnerable immigrants in Philadelphia.
After the breach: Uncovering the full scope of the attack
After a breach, every major decision depends on knowing what happened. Who must be notified? What evidence will counsel and insurers need? What can you confidently tell customers? Could the attacker still have access? A post-breach investigation provides the facts needed to address legal obligations, support insurance claims, protect customer trust, and reduce the risk of further compromise. Without those facts, an organization can underestimate both the attack and its consequences.
The EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF)
By Robert Bond, Senior Counsel, Privacy Partnership Law The EU-US Data Privacy Framework (DPF) was announced on the 10th July 2023[1] and replaces Privacy Shield which was declared unlawful by the European Court of Justice in July 2020[2]. It therefore seems that the Meta court decision is somewhat academic.
The European Union's smart (or not so smart) way to regulate artificial intelligence
In 2020, the European Commission published its white paper “On Artificial Intelligence – A European approach to excellence and trust.”[1] The white paper begins by stating, “Artificial Intelligence is developing fast.

Comparing beliefs in falsehoods based on satiric and non-satiric news
Do misperceptions vary depending on their origin? The central question of this paper is whether belief in falsehoods embedded in satiric news (e.g., exaggerated descriptions of politicians’ behaviors that were, in their original context, intended to be funny) is promoted or inhibited distinctly from belief in other falsehoods (e.g., misleading claims about politicians’ behavior that were never meant to be funny).

Accelerating DFIR: How agentic AI changes the investigation
Agentic AI is changing digital forensic investigations in ways that go well beyond summarization and chat. Instead of manually moving through the repetitive steps of search, collection, triage, and reporting, investigators can now describe what they need to know and let governed AI workflows execute the supporting tasks.

Conservatives’ susceptibility to political misperceptions
Abstract The idea that U.S. conservatives are uniquely likely to hold misperceptions is widespread but has not been systematically assessed. Research has focused on beliefs about narrow sets of claims never intended to capture the richness of the political information environment. Furthermore, factors contributing to this performance gap remain unclear.
Five data protection issues for researchers to consider in 2020

November 20 2019 Advertising Regulation What rules govern advertising on the internet? Advertising on the internet is governed by the same rules that apply to other advertising channels, although the reach of the internet poses potential problems for advertisers where their ads may be viewed further afield than might be intended. Advertisers would be well advised to clearly state at which jurisdiction their ads are aimed.
The Righteous Gemstones Shines Its Satire on a Televangelist Empire
For most of my life, pop culture and Christianity have resolved to exist separately together. Though Christ figures and spiritual journeys were common enough pop culture tropes, the entertainment I was drawn to didn’t really concern itself with contemporary Christianity. And the Christianity around me stayed in relative cultural isolation, occasionally creating its own “popular culture” of music, literature, TV, and movies. And mostly, this was a beneficial arrangement, a kind of peaceful truce.
Your Home Is a Legacy in the Making
For years, my friend Kristin privately prayed for a garden with “one towering oak tree,” where she and her husband might create a place for others to rest and retreat. When they recently purchased a home in their native Southern California, the land surrounding it surpassed her own secret desires. Their new home sits on acres of land with lush succulent gardens and is lined with over a dozen mature oak trees.
A Christian Satirist Talks The Babylon Bee
Last month, Snopes fact-checked an article from the satire site The Babylon Bee. On its website, Snopes explained its rationale: The Babylon Bee has managed to confuse readers with its brand of satire in the past. This particular story was especially puzzling for some readers, however, as it closely mirrored the events of a genuine news story, with the big exception of the website’s changing the location. We found dozens of instances of social media users who were puzzled by this article.
Commentary: Too many people think satirical news is real
(The Conversation)—In July, the website Snopes published a piece fact-checking a story posted on The Babylon Bee, a popular satirical news site with a conservative bent. Conservative columnist David French criticized Snopes for debunking what was, in his view, “obvious satire. Obvious.” A few days later, Fox News ran a segment featuring The Bee’s incredulous CEO. But does everyone recognize satire as readily as French seems to?

Maybe
Aug. 19, 2019, 11:08 a.m. Labeling satire as such may seem to take the sting out of the joke. But it’s also the most effective way we know of to prevent people from taking satirical content as fact — something surprisingly common. In July, the website Snopes published a piece fact-checking a story posted on The Babylon Bee, a popular satirical news site with a conservative bent. Conservative columnist David French criticized Snopes for debunking what was, in his view, “obvious satire.

World Vision Helped Evangelicals Become Social Activists—Within Limits
When World Vision responded to the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa, it didn’t tell supporters. The work wasn’t secret, exactly, but the organization also didn’t publicize what it was doing. It didn’t know how to publicize it, how to get evangelical donors to care about this particular crisis, AIDS in Africa. AIDS meant sex. AIDS was icky. It was associated with homosexuality, sexual promiscuity, and drug use, and to talk about AIDS, you had to talk about needles and condoms.

Get on Board with EU Data Regulation 1/30/2019 By Robert Bond Photo: iStock The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation, which came into force last year, is the most significant development in data protection law in the past 20 years. The regulation also applies to organizations located outside the European Union if they offer goods or services to, or monitor the behavior of, EU citizens.
Congressional race between GOP's Fitzpatrick, Democrat Wallace is pricer than U.S. Senate contest
With midterm elections a week away, political action committees that have no campaign contribution limits continue to spend heavily on both the Pa. congressional and U.S. Senate races. Since Keystone Crossroads checked last week, PAC spending went up by more than $3 million, greatly affecting some of the contests. Eleven of the state's 18 congressional races have attracted outside money as Pennsylvania has become a battleground for control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Seeking the Body and Blood Behind Bars
I’m a big fan of the Eucharist. So was John Wesley. Though you might not know it with the relative non-centrality of the sacrament in most Methodist worship services, the founder of Methodism never went more than four or five days in his adult life without celebrating the Lord’s Supper. But Wesley never served time in a Pennsylvania prison. Before I was incarcerated, I left Methodism to join the Lutheran Church, in large part because of the weekly observation of the Eucharist.
Quantifying Social Media’s Political Space: Estimating Ideology from Publicly Revealed Preferences on Facebook
We demonstrate that social media data represent a useful resource for testing models of legislative and individual-level political behavior and attitudes. First, we develop a model to estimate the ideology of politicians and their supporters using social media data on individual citizens’ endorsements of political figures. Our measure allows us to place politicians and more than 6 million citizens who are active in social media on the same metric.

A 61-million-person experiment in social influence and political mobilization
Human behaviour is thought to spread through face-to-face social networks, but it is difficult to identify social influence effects in observational studies9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and it is unknown whether online social networks operate in the same way14–19. Here we report results from a randomized controlled trial of political mobilization messages delivered to 61 million Facebook users during the 2010 US congressional elections.
Build an AI Cat Chaser with Jetson TX1 and Caffe
Fun projects arise when you combine a problem that needs to be solved with a desire to learn. My problem was the neighbors’ cats: I wanted to encourage them to hang out somewhere other than my front yard. At the same time, I wanted to learn more about neural network software and deep learning and have a bit of fun doing it. So I set out to build a system that would automatically chase cats out of my yard using artificial intelligence.
