Abstract Mineral dust aerosols affect Earth’s energy balance in multiple ways, including interactions with solar radiation, but this effect remains poorly quantified. A central limitation has been the lack of reliable global information on dust mineral composition, particularly light-absorbing iron oxides.
Abstract The integration of genomic sequencing into newborn screening (genomic newborn screening; gNBS) has the potential to identify more presymptomatic babies who could benefit from early intervention compared to traditional universal newborn screening (NBS). Realizing these benefits requires careful navigation of ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) to minimize harms, promote equity, and maintain trust in NBS programs.
Abstract Population genomic screening enables the identification of individuals at high risk of medically actionable conditions before disease onset, yet real-world feasibility studies are lacking. Informed by prior cost-effectiveness modelling, we conducted a prospective nationwide pilot targeting young adults in Australia (aged 18–40 years), offering genomic screening for ten genes linked to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome and familial hypercholesterolaemia.
