Burnham erreichte rund 54,8 Prozent der Stimmen und verwies den Kandidaten von Reform UK, Robert Kenyon, klar auf den zweiten Platz. Die Wahlbeteiligung lag bei knapp 59 Prozent. Der Sieg fiel deutlich höher aus, als viele Umfragen zuvor erwartet hatten. Nach seinem Erfolg erklärte Burnham, Makerfield könne zum Symbol für einen politischen Wandel werden. Er sprach von einer „letzten Chance“, die Politik des Landes neu auszurichten und verlorenes Vertrauen zurückzugewinnen.

As many will recall, Tom Garrett had to leave politics for a while to deal with some personal demons. He made a comeback last year and was elected to the House of Delegates. He’s one of the good guys, and it’s good to see him back. His visit to and support of Ukraine and its fight against Russian imperialist tyranny is most appreciated.
