SARS-CoV-2 seeds IAPP aggregation and β-cell failure
Abstract The global diabetes incidence has surged post-COVID-19, yet how SARS-CoV-2 drives long-term beta cell (β-cell) failure remains incompletely elucidated. We identified a mechanism whereby SARS-CoV-2 structural proteins directly hijack islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP) to induce pathogenic amyloid deposition, disrupting insulin granule maturation, trafficking, and secretion in an age-susceptible islet microenvironment.

Pretransplant plasma soluble PD-1 and recurrence after liver transplantation in ICI-treated hepatocellular carcinoma: an exploratory biomarker study
Abstract Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are increasingly used as bridging or downstaging therapy before liver transplantation (LT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but biomarkers of posttransplant recurrence in this setting are lacking. We evaluated the association between pretransplant plasma soluble programmed death-1 (sPD-1) and posttransplant outcomes after pretransplant ICI therapy.

Ectopic lipid deposition in kidney diseases: mechanisms in specific cell types and therapeutic strategies
Abstract Kidney diseases represent a major global health burden and arise from complex interactions among multiple cellular and molecular processes. Ectopic lipid deposition (ELD), defined as the accumulation of excess lipids in non-adipose tissues when lipid supply exceeds adipose storage capacity, has emerged as a key contributor to the initiation and progression of renal injury.

Exploring the mechanism of Zishen Quyu Jiedu formula in treating endometriosis based on network pharmacology and experimental verification
ORIGINAL RESEARCH article Volume 16 - 2025 | https://doi.org/10.3389/fendo.2025.1667486 1 Introduction Endometriosis (EMs) is a common gynecological disorder characterized by the growth of endometrium-like tissue outside the uterine cavity (1). In recent years, its global incidence has continued to rise. An estimated 10% of women of reproductive age are affected, with more than 60 million patients in China, and a marked increase has been observed in younger women (2).

Can Social Capital Shorten the Social Distance of Urban Residents? Evidence From the Spatial Stratification in China
1 Introduction Social issues in transitional China have garnered considerable attention. In the process of Chinese social transformation, cities play a crucial role. With the continuous development of urbanization in China, the degree of land and housing commodification has deepened, leading to spatial stratification as a new trend in Chinese social stratification (Xu and Shi 2016).

Genome‐wide CRISPR screening reveals key genes and pathways associated with 20‐hydroxyecdysone signal transduction in the silkworm (Bombyx mori)
Abstract Metamorphosis is a complex developmental process involving multiple pathways and a large number of genes that are regulated by juvenile hormone (JH) and 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E). Despite important progress in understanding various aspects of silkworm biology, the hormone signaling pathway in the silkworm remains poorly understood.
Monitoring Physiological Performance over 4 Weeks Moderate Altitude Training in Elite Chinese Cross-Country Skiers: An Observational Study
4. Discussion The primary contribution of our study is to provide relevant and new data regarding the effects of four weeks of moderate altitude training on the physiological performance of elite Chinese XC-skiers. This study indicates that four weeks of living and training at a moderate altitude leads to elevated lactate threshold and upper-body muscle mass.

Hemin-micelles immobilized in alginate hydrogels as artificial enzymes with peroxidase-like activity and substrate selectivity
Artificial enzymes are widely investigated to mimic the active center and the recognition center of natural enzymes. The active center is responsible for the catalytic activity of enzymes, and the recognition center provides enzymes with specificity. Most of the previous studies on artificial enzymes preferred to solve the problem of activity rather than specificity due to the complexity of the enzyme structures related to substrate recognition.
