Why Some Airports Refuse To Show DHS Shutdown Message
The Department of Homeland Security is trying to get a message out to travelers about the government shutdown. But a lot of airports around the country are quietly saying, “Yeah… no thanks.” Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem recently released a video blaming Democrats for the shutdown and pointing to the impact on TSA employees. Many of whom are working without pay. The plan was to have the video played at airports nationwide. But so far, it’s not getting much airtime.
Montana To Los Angeles Flights Discontinued By Allegiant Airlines
Well, that didn’t last long. Allegiant just said they are yanking all flights into Los Angeles International Airport. After Jan. 3rd, 2026, we will no longer be able to jump on a plane in Montana and end up in L.A. without a connection somewhere. Allegiant is saying LAX has become too expensive and too dirty. The airline insists it’s simply too expensive to do business there. And instead of eating that cost, they are packing up their Southern California hub and taking it to Burbank.

Predictive Analytics: Digging Deeper to Get Things Done
In our previous chapter on automated decisioning, we discussed the importance of bringing together all of the real-time and historical data necessary for a human expert to make better decisions in the moment. As we shift our gaze from the present to the future, we uncover another critical factor in continuous process optimization: predictive analytics. At the time of any strategic or tactical decisionpoint, what if we could already predict the most likely best path forward?

Feb. 16, 2023, 8:39 PM UTC By Claretta Bellamy and Ryan Nelson A Miami day care is receiving backlash after parents accused the private child care provider of dressing children in blackface to celebrate Black History Month. Courtney Politis, whose children are enrolled at Studio Kids Daycare, said another parent notified her of a photo of toddlers whose faces were painted with black face paint.
Montana's Most Perfect Day of the Year According to Weather Data
There's no doubt that our weather has been a bit crazy this year. Up until a few weeks ago, it seemed that everybody was complaining about how unpredictable the day-to-day temperatures could be. And I have to admit, having one day at 82 degrees and following it up with a high of 57 the next was making me wonder if summer would ever find its stride. Well, we finally made it to 90-degree days and before we know it summer will fly by and come to an end.
‘S.O.S. Biden They Won’t Stop at Roe:’ Man Climbs Metal Structure to Send Abortion Rights Message
A man identifying himself as Caleb Freestone, and a member of an organization called 'Whatever it Takes 2022,' appeared to climb the exposed metal frame of a building under construction in Miami to hang a large green banner reading, 'S.O.S. Biden They Won’t Stop at Roe.’ It happened Saturday morning on Northwest 3rd Court in Miami prior to a protest organized by 'Bans Off Miami.' After Freestone climbed down from the structure to ground several dozen feet to the below, he and a friend...

On the heels of a Clevelander Hotel employee being shot and killed in the lobby early Friday morning, Miami Beach Police are beefing up security and patrols this Fourth of July weekend. The Clevelander Hotel Nightclub was closed Friday night, and NBC 6 cameras spotted multiple Miami Beach cruisers parked in front of the business. Eric Jackson says the victim was his childhood friend, 50-year-old Dion Moore. “It hurts when it hits home,” Jackson said.
Miramar Police Launch ‘Operation Miramar Heat’ to Combat Summertime Crime
The Miramar Police Department is launching 'Operation Miramar Heat,' a strategic answer to what police say is a predictable uptick in summertime crime. “We see an increase in the burglaries, we've seen an increase in the violent crimes,” an undercover officer told NBC 6. NBC 6 got an exclusive look at the operation on Thursday. The department said there’s historically been a 17 percent increase in all crimes in the summer.
The comings and goings of Missoula businesses are constant topics of conversation around town. And the last few months have been filled with big news for some pretty recognizable places in Missoula.

Florida Firearms Instructor Speaks Out About Bipartisan Gun Bill
The bipartisan Safer Communities Act sped through congress following a string of mass shootings in the U.S. It was passed by the Senate Thursday and the House on Friday. "From Columbine to Sandy Hook to Charleston, Orlando, Las Vegas Parkland, El Paso, Atlanta, Buffalo, Uvalde and for the shootings that happen every day in the streets that are mass shootings and we don't even hear about, the number of people killed every day in the streets,” said President Biden.

Coco Plum Circle in the gated community at the Coco Plum Estates. First responders found a man dead at the scene with multiple stab wounds. Plantation Police confirmed Thursday that 26-year-old Thomas Loperfido stabbed his father to death at the home.
It's pretty crazy to think that it's been three years already! But it really was 2019 when the iconic Miss Montana took to the skies to honor the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Normandy. The task of taking a war plane from the 1940s and making the journey from Missoula was quite the undertaking when you consider Miss Montana hadn't been flown in almost 20 years as she sat in a museum after being retired.
‘You Didn’t Deserve It’: Loved Ones Hold Vigil for Father Allegedly Murdered by Son
Family and loved ones held a vigil Friday to honor a father who police say was shot and killed by his oldest son. Investigators say 27-year-old Maurice Wright Jr. shot his father, Maurice Wright Sr., 50, with a rifle in late May. Miami-Dade Police Wright Jr. was arrested by Miami-Dade Police on Wednesday at a motel on the 6100 block of Biscayne Boulevard. “I’m gonna miss my Daddy,” said the victim’s daughter, Marquisha Wright. “I love you. And it’s messed up that you had to go like that.
Before I tell you all about that hefty boy in the picture and we work on trying to find him a home, let's talk about a Take Me Home Tuesdays success story from within the last few weeks! Hooray for Hope! Do you remember when we introduced you to Hope last month? She was very sweet and loving but needed to find the perfect fit when it came to new owners and a forever home. Hope is severely impaired when it comes to her hearing and vision.
I guess not everybody is a die-hard fan of the hot summer weather. If you're a big skier or snowboarder your summer months are probably spent counting down the days until the snow starts falling and ski areas open for the season. And if you're a Montana Snowbowl fan you have to be pretty excited about this news. A new chairlift is being installed with plans of being ready for the upcoming winter. What's in the works?
It's my daughter's final week of school and she frowns whenever I remind her of that fact. Weird right? I'll say things like "it's your final Monday of the year" thinking her eyes will light up but she instantly gets bummed. We're almost to the point where I might need a DNA test to see if she's actually my kid! It just seems impossible when I think about how different her reaction to the end of the school year is when compared to mine back in the day.
The construction has been lengthy. The opening day was announced. Then the opening day was pushed back. An open house just happened this week. And now the new terminal at the Missoula Montana Airport is finally set to open in just days. The airport will have some exciting features that are included in the new terminal. Expanded ticketing options, a new restaurant, and a new viewing area are just a few of the highlights. But one part of the airport's expansion is getting some national attention.
It's pretty crazy when you take a moment to realize that construction started on the formerly named Higgins Avenue Bridge back in the fall of 2020. With everything that was happening with COVID at the time and everything that has happened since then, it seems like a lifetime ago that they started the work on what is now known as Beartracks Bridge.
Are you one of those people that are intrigued by numbers and random coincidences? I'm always looking at my iPhone when it says 9:41 - the same time Apple always shows their products having in their marketing photos! It's never 9:43 or 9:39 when I glance at it! There's a conspiracy at play I tell you! And here's another number for you. 27. Last week we got word of El Cazador closing its downtown location after almost 27 years.
Do you still have room on your plate for more Yellowstone content? The series has been a huge hit since we all started following the saga of the Dutton family and we've certainly spent our fair share of time talking about the show with all of the local filming that they've been doing. I was an extra for a day of filming last season and it was pretty cool to see how everything happens behind the scenes. Even this week, we had a story about a rodeo in Darby that's inspired by Yellowstone.
We just can't win! We have a pandemic that forces us to stay home and we watch the price of gas drop because nobody is traveling. Now everybody is ready to hit the road for the first time in two years and gas is at an all-time high. And that's not me being overly dramatic, gas prices are officially the highest in state history. Traveling for Memorial Day weekend has me experiencing a minor panic attack just thinking about the cost of filling up multiple times on the journey.
‘Impossible to Understand': Texas Shooting Brings Back Painful Memories for Parkland Parents Original
On a day when at least 19 children were murdered at a school in Uvalde, Texas, NBC 6 heard from the ones who experienced a similar tragedy just over four years ago in Parkland. Max Schachter's son Alex was among the 17 people killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in 2018 when the now-convicted gunman opened fire, injuring 17 others as well. "The worst thing that’s ever happened to me in my life is losing my little boy," Schachter.
Father of Man Killed at North Miami Group Home Speaks Out About Disturbing Video
A day after Miami-Dade prosecutors released disturbing surveillance video of group home employees wrestling a patient to the ground, family members are speaking out about the man's death. Family members identified the man as 36-year-old Edward Ware, who was living with autism. The incident, which happened in December at the Family Tree Concept Inc. group home on NE 138th Street in North Miami, was captured on video.
When it comes to Missoula PaddleHeads baseball, most of the attention has been put on May 25 as the day the 2022 season begins. And I can't argue that as May 25 is the opening day of the season as well as the first home game of the year for the PaddleHeads. But if you really want to get down to baseball business, your first chance to see the team on the field in 2022 will actually be this Friday night.
What in the world is going on with our weather right now? It's the middle of May and we're talking about snow in Missoula! Of course, I don't mean heavy snowfall and accumulation, but it's still snow! I heard the forecast on the radio this morning and it mentioned a mix of rain and snow for the early part of the day. I actually kind of chuckled at the idea because it seemed like we were finally past all that.
If I told you that Ogren Park was gearing up for a big day of family fun you might think that I was referring to the upcoming first game of the season for the Missoula PaddleHeads. Even though that's not what I'm talking about, that wouldn't be a bad guess as the opening night of baseball is fast approaching. So I guess the good news in that scenario is now that you know it's not a PaddleHeads' game, there must be another big day of fun coming up.
Woman Seen on Video Beating Kid With Belt Arrested: Florida City Police
A woman who was seen on video beating a child with a belt at a Florida City school Thursday has since been arrested and booked into jail, police said. According to jail records, Kady Ann Sewell, 33, was booked Saturday and charged with child abuse without great bodily harm, educational interference, and trespassing within a school safety zone. The charges carry a total bond amount of $6,000, according to jail records.
Mother Nature is sure showing her sense of humor this week. She gave us temperatures in the 70s and a little taste of that sweet, sweet spring weather for a couple of days. Then she pulled the rug right out from underneath us and dropped rain and 50-degree days in our laps for the weekend. It wouldn't be such a big deal if it wasn't for the multiple events scheduled around Missoula this weekend like the farmer's markets and the Garden City BrewFest.
Surveillance video appears to show a woman in pink marching into a Florida City school Thursday, before attacking a child and leaving the school with what looks like a belt in her hand. It all happened at the Bethel Seventh Day Adventist private school on Redland Road. Zendre Pollard said her son was on the receiving end of the belt attack, and tells NBC 6 her son now has a busted lip.
Billings Woman Takes Search for New Kidney to the Streets
The human body is a crazy thing. So many times over my years of playing sports I didn't think there was any way I could play in a game on the weekend when I was dealing with an injury on a Thursday or Friday. But the body just seems to find a way to get itself ready on a deadline. And I still find it fascinating that we can break a bone and the thing just grows back together! What kind of sorcery is at play with something like that?
There definitely seems to be a different buzz in the air when it comes to concerts this summer. Although some venues remained closed last year, many returned to hosting shows and it was a welcome sight. The 2021 concert season was a needed return after everything went dark in 2020 but it still felt like there was a weird vibe in the air.
South Florida Ukrainians Protest Against Comedian Who Appears on Russian TV
While some ventured out to the Hollywood Central Performing Arts Center Thursday evening to see Russia-based comedian Nurlan Saburov perform in person, others were there to protest. Dozens of people in South Florida’s Ukrainian community showed up with flags, signs, and bullhorns. They sang songs, played music, and in Ukrainian, they chanted consistently in the direction of attendees making their way into the venue. Protestor Maria Panova offered an English translation of the chant.
Last year was definitely a bit gloomy when it came to family entertainment facilities in Missoula. We started with news in January of 2021 about Flying Squirrel permanently closing its doors. The sudden loss of the trampoline park meant one less place for birthday parties, gatherings of friends, and weekends of fun.
