Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast opens July 15

WESTERLY — Immaculate Conception Church will celebrate its 98th annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feast from July 15-19, continuing a tradition that has drawn the community together since 1928. The five-day feast will open Wednesday, July 15, with a 7 p.m. Mass celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Pescatello, featuring the crowning of the Blessed Mother Mary, the enrollment of Jesus into the Scapular, and a consecration to the Blessed Mother.

Emergency water ordinance on Westerly council's agenda for Monday

WESTERLY — The Town Council will take up an emergency town ordinance to officially enact outdoor residential water use restrictions at its Monday night meeting. The ordinance as written spells out the odd/even residential outdoor use restrictions in place since last Monday. Homeowners whose address ends in an odd number — 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 — may use outdoor water on corresponding odd-numbered calendar dates, such as July 3 or 5.

Grants let police department get boat, firefighters receive protective equipment

WESTERLY — Two public safety departments in Westerly have received new equipment designed keep boats clean and firefighters safe, thanks to grant awards and some public funding. This week, the Westerly Police Department took delivery of its new 23-foot pump-out boat. The boat is one of two the department oversees to pump out wastewater from boats. The town's pump-out program services the Pawcatuck River, Little Narragansett Bay and Stonington Harbor areas.
