Buffalo Commissioner of Finance Jessica Brown is leaving her position at City Hall in early August, said a spokesperson for the city. It was not Brown's first time working for the City of Buffalo. She previously served in the same role from 2019 until 2022. Brown was most recently the comptroller of the Erie County Water Authority. "We thank Commissioner Brown for her service to the City of Buffalo during a period of extraordinary financial uncertainty," a city statement read.

The man who was behind the wheel of a tour bus returning to New York City on the Thruway last summer when it rolled over and killed five passengers has pleaded guilty in court. Bin Shao, 56, had told investigators that he was reaching for a water bottle when he lost control of the bus on a stretch of the I-90 near Pembroke. It was carrying more than 50 people; tourists who had just visited Niagara Falls.

My first job came at the age of 14. I was hired as a sports reporter for LaxDirt.com, a site that covered professional lacrosse.

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, actually. I occasionally would use my mother's old Underwood electric when I wanted a dose of journalistic nostalgia.

How is social media changing news?

It makes everything more time demanding and creates a more open conversation between journalists, readers, and recently politicians.
