Abstract Despite progress in education access across sub-Saharan Africa, school dropouts remain common. School feeding programmes (SFPs) provide nutritious meals that can strengthen food security and social protection, potentially reducing dropouts. Here we assessed SFP-related educational benefits. In Burundi, Ethiopia, Malawi, Mozambique and Namibia, we estimated SFP impacts on schooling and subsequent economic returns.
