A couple of things this administration has decided to ignore have come along to bite it—and the country—in the ass over the weekend. First of all, Spokane, a lovely city in which I spent my 46th birthday, is in danger of …

Tracking the potentially historic US winter storm in maps and charts
A major winter storm is set to spread heavy snow and damaging ice across a large portion of the United States over the coming days. Dangerously cold temperatures will only worsen the storm and increase its danger. The storm’s reach is expected to extend across hundreds of miles, bringing multiple weather hazards to different regions as it unfolds from Friday into early next week.
What’s your snow situation this season?
La Niña is present again this winter, which can have significant impacts on winter weather around the United States. Winter projections show some above average precipitation for some northern states, but above average temperatures could limit the snowfall this winter. El Niño and La Niña are parts of a natural cycle featuring temperature changes in the Pacific Ocean. During La Niña, the ocean is cooler than normal, and El Niño is when the temperatures are warmer than normal.

Trump’s Nov. 1 Doomsday Could Be the Organizing Fuel We Need
As we approach Depression-era hunger thanks to Republican SNAP and healthcare cuts, our fight to abolish poverty is more crucial than ever. Sharing a meal with family and friends, homey decor to get us in the holiday spirit, a drink by the YouTube fire crackling on repeat — these are a few of my favorite November things. Unfortunately, Trump and the GOP have a different tradition in mind: harkening back to the good old days of the Great Depression.
School choice: 'The North offers something that the South cannot'
In an age where young people are increasingly consumed by screens and pressured by the fast pace of urban life, the invitation to “look up, not down” feels urgent. Education today is about far more than exam results, it is about shaping confident, resilient young people with the skills and character to lead in a complex world. The question for families, educators, and policymakers alike is: where does this happen best? More and more, in my opinion, the answer lies in the North of England.

How Ukraine Leopard tank breakthrough opens new offensive options for Kyiv
Spanning over ten versions and sub-variants, the Leopard 2 from Germany’s Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) has been the tank of choice for much of Europe since its development in the 1970s. From Germany, across Central Europe, and all the way to the Ukrainian border in Slovakia and Poland, approximately 3,000 Leopard 2s are in service across 14 countries.
The Fight for Democracy Is Ours Too
In the fall of 2012 I was having dinner south of Moscow with a celebrated local doctor who invited me over after hearing that there was an American in town. The company that night included his wife, son and his brother’s family. By that time, the doctor and I had spent a month developing a good relationship and would often talk about 20th century history, literature, Putin, and how absurd it seems that politics continue to get in the way while the people seemed to get along just fine.
Advances in Scottish timber can support net zero efforts
By Sam Hart, innovation manager, Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC) IN the tale of the Three Little Pigs, only the house made of bricks survived the huff and puff of the Big Bad Wolf. But we know that’s not how it would work in reality: in blustery Scotland, as much as 85% of new homes are built with timber at their core – almost three times as many as England and Wales, where brick and block tends to remain the favoured method.
Seeing the wood for the trees: how timber can help Scotland deliver sustainability
Sam Hart By Sam Hart, innovation manager, Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC) SCOTLAND is claimed to have hit the energy jackpot twice, with the discovery of North Sea oil and gas and, later, the advent of renewable energy. Yet, there is another natural resource that could be as important in helping Scotland achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045 – our woodlands and forestry.
(Wo)man Up: Charlize Theron Shows How To "Fight Like a Girl" in 'Atomic Blonde'
Atomic Blonde premiered in July 2017. The film, directed by David Leitch became a huge hit all around the world, scoring $100,121,713 dollars in the box office. Based on the graphic novel titled The Coldest City by Sam Hart and Antony Johnston, Atomic Blonde carries a similar atmosphere to the John Wick trilogy. Nothing is shocking about this, as Leitch is a director of both. The first one, however, is a chilling, suspenseful story set in dark Berlin during the Cold War.
