What was your first job as a journalist?
Reporter at the Carlsbad, New Mexico Current-Argus.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. For newspaper work? No. I was getting started just as computers were coming into the newsroom.
How is social media changing news?
The most profound and dangerous way is the ease of spreading disinformation. It is also a major disruptor to advertising revenue.
What's your favorite social network?
At this point, Instagram.
Why did you become a journalist?
Because I wanted to make a difference in the world and in my community by telling great stories.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Yes, I was a reporter in high school and the editor in college. In high school I also worked on the yearbook.
When's the best time to pitch you?
Late morning. Possibly early afternoon.
What's your favorite drink?
Coffee. Lots of it.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
Riding a horse.
