LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — May is when Las Vegas starts heating up in a big way. High temperatures typically climb back into the 90s, and the valley’s first 100-degree day of the year is usually right around the corner. Rain is hard to come by, too. Another mild day is on the way for Wednesday, before stronger wind picks up with cooler air for Southern Nevada. Highs are in the mid-70s this afternoon, with plenty of sunshine. The strongest wind is focused east of Las Vegas over the Colorado River Valley, where a Lake Wind Advisory is in effect with gusts up to 40 mph.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for a large portion of the United States, stretching from New Mexico through the Great Plains and into the Tennessee Valley. The biggest impacts will stay well east of Southern Nevada, but a few scattered showers and gusty northerly winds are forecast around the Las Vegas Valley Friday and Saturday. What to expect locally Thursday-Friday: A weather system will bring slight chances of light rain to Southern Nevada and northwest Arizona.
