New Mexico Tech announced it will no longer pursue the construction of a green data center in Socorro County, citing complex issues and concerns raised by residents during recent town halls. The proposed facility would have generated 2 gigawatts of continuous power using solar panels and battery storage across 10,000 acres. However, many residents expressed concerns about the environmental impact of the project. "There is no such thing as harmless additional pumping here.

Los Alamos hospital to end labor and delivery services in June

Los Alamos Medical Center announced it will transition labor and delivery services to hospitals in Santa Fe and Española, citing declining birth numbers and staffing shortages. The hospital said the decision comes after years of declining birth numbers, which fell to fewer than 25 last year, along with ongoing staffing shortages. Nicole O'Daniel, an expectant mother in Los Alamos, said the announcement was shocking. "I saw the LAMC announcement and I was just shocked by it," O'Daniel said.
