Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I was a LoCoSports reporter and I reported on local sports in my county while in High School!

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Nope!

How is social media changing news?

Social Media allows News to break faster and be more up to date on what's actually happening worldwide.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

I don't have one!

What does it mean to be a journalist?

It means keeping people updated on all things that affect them so that they can make informed decisions about their life and views.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

By email! I look at my email everyday so I will see it!

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Premiere Pro. Blinder, Zoom, Google Docs.

What's your favorite social network?

Twitter

Who do you wish followed you?

Al Michaels, a famous sports commentator

Why did you become a journalist?

I want to tell the stories of people across the world and keep people informed about what's happening so that they feel trusted.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I did! I was only there one year but I was a sports and news reporter and won best sports story that year!

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

I wrote a story on football voting for my newspaper and a lot of people shared it and said I educated them very well!

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

To always go for it. No matter what you like no matter what I could do in the future, just always go for it.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Anytime! I'm around my computer day and night!

What's the best pitch you ever got?

When a writer pitched to me about NHL writers and JMU connections because I love the bigger impact stories

What's the worst pitch you ever got?

This is a hard one. I honestly can't say every pitch I have tells a story about a person and that's what's important!

What's your favorite drink?

Either Arizona Arnold Palmer or Diet Coke.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

I'm most likely watching films of games and analyzing possible story ideas!

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

The Divergent Series! I love those books!

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

That sports isn't as important as other journalism writing. We are still telling stories of athletes and their community effect.
