Stifling Thought on Campus
Memo to certain college newspaper editors: David Horowitz soon will give you another chance to prove your devotion to free speech isn't just lip service. Here's hoping you don't blow it the way you did last time. Yes, Horowitz, a former anti-Vietnam War activist-turned conservative commentator, plans to take another shot at the experiment he tried on college journalism a few months ago.

EXORCIST VENGEANCE-This Time, He's Not Crucif*ckin' Around
The exorcist subgenre is well-known and (in)famous in the horror genre. Most exorcism films follow the same recipe: the priest spends a frightening 15-20 minutes of runtime exorcizing the possessed (typically) woman and saves her soul. The priests are always armed with a Bible, holy water, and a crucifix. But what if they had something else? Like, perhaps… a gun? Yep. A gun. Directed by Rebecca J.
HATCHED-How To Make A Dinosaur Horror Movie Boring
Great pieces of cinema will always have their imitators, as they say, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Without Halloween we wouldn’t have Friday the 13th, which started off as an imitation but then took on a life of its own. It is never just enough though to copy something that is popular, it has to have something that makes it unique or it just becomes one of the thousands of movies that The Asylum releases.

Read September's CA magazine now When we rang in the new year following 12 months dominated by discussions of Brexit, little did we know what was about to ensue.
East End Fishing Report
Shinnecock bay/inlet/ocean The Shinnecock bay has plenty of fluke action throughout the bay but keepers are a grind to find. Just enough keepers to keep your interest. Skinny, warmer water has been best. Squid/spearing combos and gulp all working. The bunker schools out in the ocean are still producing trophy striped bass if you can find the right school otherwise its bluefish you will tangle with. There are a few keeper bass failing for drifted live baits in the inlet or near the bridge.
East End Fishing Report
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean The most popular target this past week has been the striped bass. Huge schools of bunker are outside our inlet both east and west with big bluefish and big bass on them. You will need to work to find the right school but when you do hold on. Live lining the bunker is the best bait. Fifty-pound bass have been caught and safely released. The fluke bite is slowly improving in the bay but you still need to move around a lot to put fish in the box.

Gators And Cocktails
The bluefish continue to dominate the report this week. Both the gators and the cocktails are in the inlet, around the bridge and outside the inlet, too. Tins, bucktails and soft plastics are all doing the job. The fluke bite seems to be improving with the better weather and sun warming the waters. The western end of Shinnecock Bay has been better but we did have some reports of fluke near the inlet. Try targeting the flats for that warmer water. Gulp, squid and spearing all working.
Bunker & Bass Reported
There is a lot of bait in both Shinnecock and Peconic Bays. Bunker are everywhere, along with a bit of butterfish with bass on them in the Peconics. There are many reports of schoolie bass in most back bay and creek areas. Outgoing tides are still best, but fish are being caught on both tides. Shinnecock canal has a good amount of schoolie bass along with a few keepers, mostly on rubber baits. Most of the bigger fish have come in the dark on swimming plugs.

Few Keeper Fluke Found
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean The fluke continue to account for most of the action in the Shinnecock Bay, of course with plenty of sea robins in the mix. There are many short fluke with the occasional keeper. No real specific location, just have to keep moving around and work the tide and wind conditions. The fluke are biting in the ocean, again a lot of shorts with a few keepers. All the regular baits including squid, spearing, and gulp.
Bluefin Biting Near The Coimbra
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean The report has not changed much. The great news is if you’re looking to bend a rod, you will not be disappointed due to the huge amount of action locally. There are many short fluke, with the occasional keeper in the bay, ocean, and inlet. All the regular baits, squid, spearing, and gulp are working well. Out on the reef, seabass continue to cooperate, but keepers are tough to find. The cocktail bluefish are chasing bait in the bay, inlet, and ocean.
Cocktail Blues, Green Bonita Shorebound
Skip to content A 13.3-pound fluke was caught August 11 outside of Shinnecock Bay by East End Bait & Tackle customer Mike. Photo byScott Jeffrey Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean The amount of action in Shinnecock Bay is excellent. The problem is, short fluke is making up a lot of it. All the usual baits including squid, spearing, and gulp are working. Robins and lots of cocktail bluefish make up the rest of the action. Cocktail blues are following huge amounts of bait, and taking tins and jigs.
Fishing Improving With Warmer Temps
Shinnecock Bay/Inlet/Ocean Shinnecock Bay has seen some fluke from the warmer parts. Schoolie bass and a few keepers have been hanging around the Ponquogue Bridge on the night tides. Some bluefish are making their way around following bait in the bay, inlet, and along the ocean beaches. There have been reports of cocktail to gorilla sizes. Shinnecock bays fluke bite should turn on as soon as things warm up a bit. Peconics Most reports are from this area, as this is where a lot of action is.
How Leaders Use Symbols to Influence Others
With wings spanning over six feet long, the eagle soars over the trees. Its powerful, flapping wings sound like the mighty wind. Its strong feet and curved talons comfortably grasp prey twice its size. Landing gracefully, it remains perched at the summit in all its majesty and glory. The eagle—the king of birds—is a symbol of strength, vitality, power, and omniscience. And its greatness has inspired comparison to the sun, earthly rulers, and imperial nations.
7 Qualities of an Effective Coach
Coaching isn’t just a function or professional role; it’s a powerful style of leadership. The term coach is used so flippantly in today’s marketplace that it seems to have little intrinsic meaning as “consultant.” Coach comes from the Middle English word coche, which means “a wagon or carriage.” This meaning is still used today in the phrase “traveling coach.” A coach carries or transports a person or group of people from a starting point to the desired location.
The 8 Voices of Laziness and How to Overcome Them
According to a study from Deloitte, 70 percent of respondents binge watch streaming content. This means watching an average of five television shows (50-minutes long) in one sitting. Do we have a laziness epidemic on our hands? It’s possible. Laziness is something everyone struggles with to varying degrees. There are many different sources of our laziness. Most of the time, we aren’t aware of these causes. Instead, we just feel lazy. As with procrastination, laziness is a symptom, not a cause.
Using Maslow to Build a Stronger and More Rewarding Business
While most psychologists of his era were focused exclusively on diagnosing and treating mental illness, Maslow inquired: What does mental health look like? This single question led to a new understanding of what it is to be human: what motivates us, how we grow, and what we experience when we’re at our best. Maslow’s’ insights, when applied to your organization, can improve the overall health of your business. It can, in turn, provide you with a significant competitive advantage.
10 Ways to Create a More Inspiring Work Life
Chief executives are essentially paid to make a few big decisions each year. Making effective decisions requires us to hold a long-term outlook. To keep a future vision, we need to be able to rise above today’s whirlwind and see beyond what’s in front of us. Visioning is not an easy task. The demands of now are pervasive and unrelenting. How do we meet these challenges and push far beyond them? We ask big questions, challenging our perception of what’s possible.
How Core Values Can Influence Behavior in Your Business
If you could wave a wand and have all of your employees behaving in certain ways, how would you want them to act? It's easy to get frustrated when an employee is behaving in a manner that doesn't support your business-arriving late to meetings, speaking over others, or making rash decisions. When you observe a negative behavior, you can try to correct it by calling the person into your office and giving him or her feedback.
The Single Most Important Quality for Lasting Leadership
Over 75,000 people were asked: What qualities in a leader would inspire you to follow willingly? Integrity is another word for honesty. We trust people who we believe have integrity. We distrust those who we perceive lack integrity. But integrity is just a word. Enron had integrity listed as one of their five core values. The word itself doesn’t hold much power. The power comes when a person’s or company’s behavior supports what the word represents.
5 Powerful Ways to Promote Learning and Collaboration in Your Business
Peter Drucker coined the term “knowledge worker” in 1969 in The Age of Discontinuity. He differentiated knowledge workers from manual workers, forecasting that new industries will employ mostly the former.
How Businesses Kill Creativity (And How You Can Avoid It)
In today’s hyper-connected, fast-moving global marketplace, businesses are racing to grow big—and fast. Many executives and entrepreneurs fail to achieve their growth goals because they haven’t set up the right conditions. Profitability and customer loyalty are consequences of a business’s commitment to evolve, innovate and exceed their customers’ expectations. Ironically, a focus on obsessive growth can often stifle innovation and marketing, the lifeblood of a business’s expansion efforts.
How to Use Imagination to Grow Your Business
Do you think he was correct? Einstein was voicing his opinion regarding scientific research, an area traditionally dominated by pure rationalism. How about in business? Do you value imagination more than (or as much as) what you know? It’s unlikely. We favor knowledge over imagination, reason over intuition. But it’s imagination that creates the new, the better, the unforeseen. Imagination fuels all great visions. All inspired leaders can envision a future that doesn’t yet exist.
6 Principles of Effective Communication for Business Success
Human interactions are complicated. We each have different temperaments, opinions, limitations, beliefs, worldviews, and childhood conditioning. If you consider it, it’s amazing two or more people can communicate at all. And the truth is we rarely do communicate well at work or home. We can mitigate most workplace conflicts by applying a little more spirit and a little less ego. Humans are hard-wired to be self-serving, but successful communication requires graciousness.
How to Adopt a Results Mindset in Your Work
Virtually all forms of business planning slip into the same problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re formulating a plan for a new business idea, a technological innovation, or a marketing initiative, your plan tends to constellate around a set of to-dos. And while your to-do-list-driven plan may help distribute various activities to different team members, it doesn’t guarantee that you’re achieving your business goals. When you go grocery shopping, you have a list of items.
How to Give Effective Feedback to Influence Positive Change
A coach stands on the sidelines, peering over all of his players in movement. When he sees a player doing something suboptimal, he pulls that player aside to offer feedback. The coach’s objective is to improve the performance of his players. He sees things the players on the field can’t see. Outperforming entrepreneurs and executives often have this coaching style of leadership in their repertoire. Offering effective feedback is a skill.
Why You Should Stop Being a Good Person
“You’re such a good boy, Daniel.” “Sarah, that was a nice thing you did. You’re a sweetheart.” Did you hear phrases like this when you were younger? If you’re a parent, have you said something similar to your child? This form of praising starts in early childhood. Our parents, family members, and teachers innocently install it in us (as the prior generation did to them). “Good boy/girl” praising gives children a sense of pride and approval from their parents.
10 Attributes of Visionary Leaders
Visionary leadership is a style of leading others. There are other leadership styles, but this one is arguably the most vital for today’s business leaders looking to create thriving organizations that achieve long-term success. The late Steve Jobs is the poster child for this style. Surely, Jobs demonstrated most of the qualities we will highlight below. Visionary leaders have a compelling vision for their business.
Why Great Businesses Use the Power of Play
Why do think being a business professional means being serious? The mindset is: Playfulness is childish. Adults are serious; business professionals even more so. When you were a child, your parents might have told you: “Stop playing around!” And you just might have listened too well. Play and playfulness, however, are incredibly important for both your work and your organization. Do you behave and act the same way at work as you do at home? Probably not.
