Security, sovereignty and the Indo-Pacific: Morrison’s strategic ‘reset’ warning
Opinion: Former prime minister Scott Morrison argues that today’s global turmoil is a strategic reset, one that demands democracies, rebuilds strength and resilience and defends the rules-based order in the Indo-Pacific. Are university policies holding science back? Study shows how patenting boosts pure research.
By Scott Morrison, UC Berkeley Haas When UC Berkeley biochemist Jennifer Doudna first began studying how bacteria fight virus infections, she had no idea it would result in one of the most important scientific breakthroughs of the century. Her curiosity-driven research on an obscure bacterial immune system called CRISPR eventually led to a revolutionary gene-editing tool—and earned her the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Scott Morrison: Donald Trump’s strikes on Iran a necessary measure to achieve peace, not war in Middle East
The recent strike by the United States on Iran’s nuclear facilities marks a critical turning point in global security. It is not just a matter for the Middle East or for U.S. foreign policy. It is a test for all nations that rely on the strength and credibility of the international rules-based order and the western alliance for their security, Australia included. Let me be clear, this strike was not an act of provocation.

Adding State to Containers Needs Perspective : @VMblog
By Scott Morrison, CTO, NetApp Lately I've been spending my free time reading about the birth of Cubism in Paris, just prior to the First World War. Two things in this story stood out for me. The first is how revolution is an iterative process which only appears spontaneous when viewed from the other side. This should come as no surprise to anyone who has lived through a few waves in tech industry.
Australia's choice this federal election will have real, long-term consequences
comment, scott morrison, opinion piece, federal election Australia has faced a series of defining challenges over the past three years. Fires, floods, a pandemic, a global recession, a mouse plague, a war in Europe, economic coercion from China. They've all been hard on our families, on our businesses, on our jobs, on our farmers, on our children. But set against those difficulties Australia, and Australians, have shown what we can overcome together.

Could I Handle Hiking the AT? A Hike-By-Hike Discovery
Jan 24, 2022 : Scott Morrison Appalachian Trail I’ve noted in earlier blog posts that my plan for an AT thru-hike in 2022 arose during the pandemic spring of 2020. But my thru-hike aspirations were trapped in the body of a veteran day hiker. Yes, I’d done a couple of overnights with my son about seven years earlier—but let’s face it—I was a backpacking rookie. Wet behind the ears. A noob.

Taking action on climate change
Australians want action on climate change. And so do I. But they also don’t want their electricity bills to skyrocket, the lights to go off, for their jobs to be put at risk or for the way of life in rural and regional communities to be sacrificed. Australians want a 2050 plan on net zero emissions that does the right thing on climate change and secures their future in a changing world. They also want a plan that is fair and practical.
Australia to pursue nuclear-powered submarines through new trilateral enhanced security partnership
Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States have agreed to the creation of an enhanced trilateral security partnership – AUKUS. The security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region have grown significantly. Military modernisation is occurring at an unprecedented rate and capabilities are rapidly advancing and their reach expanding. The technological edge enjoyed by Australia and our partners is narrowing.
Time to shift focus from case numbers to hospitalisations
A focus on case numbers was very important when we knew nothing about this virus and whether our hospital system would be able to cope. A lot has changed since then. Increasingly we need to look beyond just the case numbers to know what our future holds. How we can keep safe and how we get our lives back in a COVID world. Case numbers are important, but they are not the whole story. Our hospital and public health systems are prepared, they have held up to the challenge and continue to do so.

Albanese: Scott Morrison had two jobs in 2021, he bungled both
Scott Morrison had two jobs in 2021: Roll out the COVID-19 vaccine, and fix the nation’s broken quarantine system. The Prime Minister has bungled both. It is sobering to think how far behind the rest of the world Australia is when it comes to the rollout of COVID vaccinations. About 9 per cent of Australians are fully vaccinated against COVID. In the United Kingdom the majority of people have had both jabs, while in the United States the figure is almost half.
Scott Morrison's Remarks, Recognition of Business Excellence
PRIME MINISTER: Thank you very much Trevor. Can I start by just acknowledging the Indigenous owners of the land on which we meet, elders past, present and future. Can I acknowledge any veterans that are here with us, and serving men and women from our Defence Forces. Of course, can I acknowledge my colleagues, James and Trevor, great to be with both of you. Great to be in Queensland these last few days, I'll be very, very sad to leave, which is not too far away, but going down to the cooler climes.
Australia's PM thanks multicultural communities, honours their sacrifices
This year’s Budget is a significant time in Australia’s history as the world confronts the worst pandemic in a century. We see the terrible impacts and toll of COVID-19 almost everywhere. Yet here in Australia, we are living life differently. Our economy is stronger than virtually any advanced economy. We have more Australians in work today than before the pandemic began. And we are continuing to successfully fight the virus, protecting the health and lives of Australians.

Australia’s airlines, hotels and caravan parks, restaurants and bars, travel agents and tourism operators are set for a rush of hundreds of thousands of tourists as part of a new $1.2 billion support package from the Morrison Government. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said while Australia’s economy had recovered 85 per cent of its fall from COVID-19, the next step in the Government’s National Economic Recovery Plan would target the businesses, workers and regions still doing it tough.

Australia's PM Scott Morrison thanks Australia's multicultural communities
Australia’s Prime Minister Scott Morrison addressed Australia’s multicultural communities in an end-of-year wrap. This year has asked a great deal of our multicultural communities. You’ve all been called on to make some very big sacrifices. Especially when it comes to the social networks that bind you. And your community and cultural activities, that reach out and bring joy to so many Australians. You’ve all played a part, you’ve done whatever it takes, to keep each other safe.
SCOTT MORRISON: 'Our challenge is to keep the foot on the digital accelerator'
This year has been a thunderclap to so much of what we assumed to be normal. While some parts of the economy, by virtue of the pandemic restrictions, were frozen in place, others had to accelerate at warp speed. But all of us have had to adapt and to find a place of resilience and resolve. In the first three weeks of this pandemic, a quarter of Australian businesses changed the way they deliver. Almost a quarter changed what they deliver. Diversifying into new products and services.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison Interview with Karl Stefanovic and Ally Langdon
ALLY LANGDON: Well, the Prime Minister has dropped by to say hello, so Scott Morrison, thank you for joining us this morning. PRIME MINISTER: Good morning, Ally. LANGDON: Do you think you spent enough money last night? PRIME MINISTER: Well, we spent what we needed to. And we're spending it all in this year and next year predominantly, 90 per cent. I know this figure is quite daunting. I can tell you as someone who's been involved in these budgets for many years now, it was certainly daunting to us.
Scott Morrison: My roadmap for modern Australian manufacturing
The 2020-2021 Budget, to be delivered by the Treasurer next Tuesday, will be arguably one of the most important, if not the most important since the end of the Second World War. This year, the global economy is forecast to contract by around 4.5%. The world economy during the GFC declined by 0.1%. So in simple terms, the economic contraction we’re expecting this year in the global economy is 45 times greater than the GFC. The scale of what is occurring today is incredibly sobering.
Scott Morrison's national energy address at Tomago on Tuesday: This isn't ideology, it's just common sense
Skip to navigationSkip to contentSkip to footer news, local-news, Prime Minister Scott Morrison's national energy address at Tomago on Tuesday Thank you for your very warm welcome. A few weeks ago some boys from the Shire came up here and they didn't get as great a welcome from the Knights, it didn't turn out too well for us but we made up for it last weekend, didn't we. And it's wonderful to be up here with you all. It's nice to be out of Canberra and Sydney I've got to say.
Turn and earn: How to build your bottom line by lowering your average truck turnaround times
The saying “time is money” is never truer than when it comes to your delivery fleet. Indeed, when delivery trucks are sitting in your yard, waiting for the next order to be picked, staged, wrapped, and loaded/secured onto the bed, they are costing money. When trucks are at jobsites delivering materials, they are making money. It should be quite clear where your trucks should be for most of each delivery day.
Paid pandemic leave and reformed rights: How Covid-19 impacts workers
Changes to the Fair Work Act that allow businesses to freely change employees duties, hours and locations could be made permanent, according to Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg. The measures, which were made temporarily available to struggling businesses at the height of the pandemic, could be used moving forward to allow bosses more flexibility around how they deploy their workers.
Lower, targeted support announced as virus continues
Photo by Arturo Rey on Unsplash Wage subsidies will be reduced to $1200 a fortnight for full-time workers after September as part of the federal government’s overhaul of coronavirus support. People working less than 20 hours a week will have their JobKeeper payment cut to $750 a fortnight. Most businesses will have to requalify for JobKeeper by demonstrating a 30 per cent loss in revenue, with the threshold 50 per cent for major companies. The new rates will run between September and March.
