Editorial: Cardiometabolic Burden and Prognosis in Alcohol-Related Hepatitis
The overlapping contributions of alcohol and metabolic risk factors to liver disease development and progression are increasingly recognized. Alcohol consumption is associated with worse liver outcomes in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) [1]. Similarly, diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome are associated with worse liver outcomes in alcohol-related liver disease (ALD) [2].

MASLD In PBC: A Shift From Liver-Centred to Cardiometabolic Risk Assessment?
The coexistence of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is becoming increasingly common in clinical practice. As the global prevalence of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome continues to rise, hepatologists are confronted with patients who harbour both autoimmune cholestatic liver disease and metabolic liver injury.

Response to Dr. Richelle et al.
We thank Dr. Richelle et al. [1] for their interest in our article [2]. These investigators raised three thoughtful comments that deserve careful consideration. After adjusting our logistic regression models also for the use of lipid-lowering and antiplatelet medications (as shown in Table ), we found that the independent predictors of MASLD remained essentially unchanged from our original findings [2].
Are you embracing AI?
There's something of a misunderstanding in the property industry that agents are luddites, clinging to fax machines and Rolodexes, but quite the opposite is true. Sales and letting agents like nothing more than finding new efficiencies – whether through careful outsourcing, digital signatures or virtual tours, begging the question, Are you embracing AI? Now, a new piece of research indicates that property is ready for a greater integration of AI.

Challenges and complications of prolonged nasogastric intubation in equine patients
Managing equine patients that require prolonged periods of nasogastric intubation can be difficult and may require the use of repeated intubation or use of an in-dwelling nasogastric tube. Both approaches present potential risks for complications from nasal, pharyngeal and oesophageal trauma. Diagnosis and treatment of cranial oesophageal lesions can be particularly challenging due to the anatomy of this region.

Heston Famed as Much for NRA as Films
The actor Charlton Heston, who died on Saturday night, aged 83, was described as being like a "rugged American frontiersman". He took on some of the most famous roles in Hollywood. He dipped into the world of soap. And then he championed the right to bear arms. Lydia, to whom he was married for 64 years, was at his bedside when he died. A family spokesman did not disclose the cause of death.

Quantifying prediction of pathogenicity for within-codon concordance (PM5) using 7541 functional classifications of BRCA1 and MSH2 missense variants
Abstract Purpose Conditions and thresholds applied for evidence weighting of within-codon concordance (PM5) for pathogenicity vary widely between laboratories and expert groups. Because of the sparseness of available clinical classifications, there is little evidence for variation in practice.
Florida sees resurgence in newspapers following US acquisition in 1821
During its control over East Florida and West Florida, Spain prohibited newspapers. But once Spain left St. Augustine on July 10, 1821, residents saw a major resurgence in media. There were nearly 50 newspapers, dailies and weeklies, published in Florida starting with the territorial period and through statehood in 1845 and beyond.
Increasing brain palmitoylation rescues behavior and neuropathology in Huntington disease mice
Abstract Huntington disease (HD) damages the corticostriatal circuitry in large part by impairing transport of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). We hypothesized that improving vesicular transport of BDNF could slow or prevent disease progression.
Efficient aortic lymphatic drainage is necessary for atherosclerosis regression induced by ezetimibe
Abstract A functional lymphatic vasculature is essential for tissue fluid homeostasis, immunity, and lipid clearance. Although atherosclerosis has been linked to adventitial lymphangiogenesis, the functionality of aortic lymphatic vessels draining the diseased aorta has never been assessed and the role of lymphatic drainage in atherogenesis is not well understood.
A single-cell analysis of the molecular lineage of chordate embryogenesis
RESULTS Cell isolation and sequencing To best exploit the invariant cell lineage and low cell numbers in Ciona embryos, we dissociated C. savignyi embryos at eight developmental stages (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 110 cell) and manually collected individual cells from each embryo (Fig. 1A). For each embryonic stage, we sampled two to eight embryos for a total of 29 wild-type embryos. Furthermore, we collected cells from two 64-cell stage embryos that were treated with U0126, a MEK inhibitor.

Dropwise condensation on solid hydrophilic surfaces
Abstract Droplet nucleation and condensation are ubiquitous phenomena in nature and industry. Over the past century, research has shown dropwise condensation heat transfer on nonwetting surfaces to be an order of magnitude higher than filmwise condensation heat transfer on wetting substrates. However, the necessity for nonwetting to achieve dropwise condensation is unclear.

Helen Chesnut: Early-autumn rain a godsend for gardeners
Roused from sleep in the wee hours of the morning, I wondered what was causing the strange rustling noise that had wakened me. Could it be? It was. Wafting its soothing sounds through the open bedroom window was a light rainfall, the first in two months. That more-than-welcome rain early in the month initiated an unusually abrupt shift from hot and sunny to cool and rainy, literally overnight, and earlier than usual.
Equine emergency upper airway management
Respiratory distress due to acute upper respiratory tract obstruction is an uncommon emergency in equine practice. However, clinicians should be confident with the approach to this truly life‐threatening scenario. Clinical signs are obvious at rest and include increased respiratory effort, loud respiratory noise and recumbency as asphyxiation progresses.

Gum chewing aids bowel function return and analgesic requirements after bowel surgery: a randomized controlled trial
This was a randomized controlled trial of patients undergoing elective open or laparoscopic bowel surgery, who were allocated into two groups: a chewing gum group (CG); or a nonchewing gum group (NG). Primary outcomes were time to discharge (length of hospital stay [LOS]), time to first flatus (TFF) and time to first bowel motion (TBM). Secondary outcomes were complication rates, pain and total morphine equivalent (TMEq) medication for 7 days after the procedure.
