Shane Doan to join Arizona Coyotes front office as chief hockey development officer
Shane Doan is returning to the Arizona Coyotes as the team's chief hockey development officer. The Coyotes announced Monday that Doan will also serve as a strategic advisor to team owner Alex Meruelo and general manager Bill Armstrong. Doan, who played in the NHL from 1995-96 through 2016-17 with the Coyotes franchise, announced his retirement in 2017. The team retired his No. 19 in 2019. "Shane Doan is a Coyotes legend and a Valley icon," Coyotes President & CEO Xavier Gutierrez said.

Retired Arizona Coyotes legend Shane Doan will serve as a pallbearer at John McCain's memorial on Thursday. McCain, an American war hero, senator and former presidential candidate, passed away on Saturday after a battle with brain cancer. The 81-year-old was from Arizona and become friends with Doan during his long career with the Coyotes. Coyotes to retire Shane Doan's No. 19
The Arizona Coyotes announced on Wednesday that the club will retire Shane Doan's No. 19 on Feb. 24 when they host the Winnipeg Jets at Gila River Arena. Doan, who played in the NHL from 1995-96 through 2016-17, announced his retirement as an active player last August. Selected seventh overall in the 1995 NHL Draft, Doan spent his entire NHL career with the Winnipeg Jets/Arizona Coyotes franchise.
Doan joins NHL's Hockey Ops department
According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, Doan has accepted a position in the hockey operations department and will work under Colin Campbell. Doan retired after 21 NHL seasons in July when he failed to land a contract in free agency. He spent his entire career with the Arizona Coyotes franchise. Upon his retirement, it was widely speculated Doan, who captained Canada at three world hockey championships, would play for Team Canada at the 2018 Olympic Games.
