The Archdiocese of Chicago has been given the go-ahead to proceed with its countersuit against abuse settlement claimants who received payouts or had pending settlements after filing allegedly false claims. Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago announced, in a June 12 letter, the Cook County Circuit Court's decision after the defense tried to have the lawsuit dismissed. "We look forward to pursuing these claims," James Geoly, the archdiocese's general counsel, said in a June 19 email to OSV News.
